Excellent interview!
Is the interviewer, Anastasia Churkina, by any chance related to the Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin?
Like Amb. Churkin, Churkina speaks flawless, American accented English. Perhaps she has lived in the US for several years.
I vividly recall Vitaly Churkin's appearance before a Senate Committee in the mid-80's, when he was, I believe, a junior diplomat at the Russian Embassy in Washington. He spoke eloquently about the dramatic changes in the Soviet Union at the time, "Glasnost" and "Perestroika." Many of the Senators at the time were, typically, appallingly ignorant and prejudiced. This was the time when George Will described Mikhail Gorbachev as "Brezhnev with a tailored suit and a thin wife."
