1. At the Friday prayer, loudspeakers exhorted the chants

of "Death to USA" and "Death to Britain." The crowds overwhelmingly chanted "Death to Russia" and "Death to China," two countries seen as enabling the present government.

It seems few people there are buying the government whine about the CIA and UK controlling the protesters.

I don't have the illusion that they like us a whole lot better than Russia or China, we've cost them too much over the past several decades. Still, it's nice to hear official government hate fall so flat.

2. FYI

FYI, "Death to (insert noun here)" is just a saying in that part of the world, kind of like saying "down with taxes!" or something. They don't really mean they want America or whatever to die.

3. Shoot, I know that, it's so formulaic as to have lost its true meaning

much like the more violent sports cheers. Yay, team, and all that.

What was interesting to me is how many people were shouting "Death to Russia!" at odds with what was coming out of the loudspeaker. It looked completely spontaneous and drowned out anyone in the crowd who was being obedient.
