"DNC Chair Howard Dean speaking Sunday, June 10, 2007, at DemocracyFest 2007 in Bedford, NH. Excerpt from his talk focuses on the war in Iraq and the recent vote in Congress on the supplemental appropriations bill."

More:
Howard Dean at Democracy Fest Sunday....summary with pictures.

This comment from that link shows the fine line he walks. From Green Mountain Daily blog:

Dean began his balancing act of playing his role as chief Democratic Party cheerleader, while acknowledging, and even validating, the concerns and frustrations of liberal Democrats who play the role of his constituency. He acknowledged openly that the Democratic victories of last year constituted "probational employment," and after praising Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid, commented that a "fair amount of you are disappointed ahe voting a couple weeks ago in Congress."

Dean's response was to validate, but to remind attendees that Harry Reid starts out every Iraq vote with only 49 votes.

1. I really love Dean
and I appreciate the fine line he has to walk - as DNC head he can't really bash Democrats.

But that line about Reid starting with 49 votes. Yes, to bring a bill he needs 60 votes. But to KILL a bill he only needs 40. The last appropriation which funded Bush's War Profiteering could have been killed with 40 Democratic votes. And the propaganda battle could have been easily won by pointing out that feeding more $ to the war machine hardly does our servicepeople any favors.

Bah. I hate having our leaders fail us so thoroughly.

I think it would be very hard to ever convince the public of what you are doing since the media is on the other side of the aisle or covering Paris Hilton.

And if I were in Congress I would be cautious about stopping funding...especially with someone like Bush who cares so little about the troops he would hurt them to spite us.

4. Bush doesn't hate the troops, we do!
We want them to come home from a bogus war and not be shot at and killed. He wants to start more wars. Of course, we hate the troops!
