"...against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq."

Do you know after you watch something, that feeling that you need to take a shower? I felt like I needed to be blasted off with bleach and scrubbed with a wire brush after watching this.

It can officially be said that he is now nothing more than a puppet of Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, and when he opens his mouth, out spew the neo-cons talking points. It's also a blatant insult to our intelligence. They don't even to bother to change their talking points here! It's the same word for word rhetoric and talking points that bushco used to sell us the invasion of Iraq...

3. Another chickenhawk neocon who never served.
I wish I were a pundit interviewing this evil man. I would say, "Your critics say you are enthusiastic about sending other people into war but you have never served. Will you make a commitment that before we attack any other nation, all members of your family who are eligible will have enlisted in the military and will have volunteered to be on the front lines?"

His children would be just as ideal for cannon fodder as the ones who are now dying. Or maybe we could just send them shopping every day in downtown Iraq, without a battalion as an escort. He and his pal John have declared that to be safe, after all.

Clark, Lieberman Spar Over Iran
Hartford Courant | David Lightman | June 12, 2007

Joe Lieberman has triggered a war of words over Iran.

The senator told CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday that the U.S. should be prepared to strike Iran if necessary. He repeated that view Monday on the Fox News Network, saying, "It's time to understand we're prepared to take military action" to "take out" the bases where Iranians are training extremists to kill U.S. military personnel in Iraq.

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark had heard enough.

"Sen. Lieberman's saber rattling does nothing to help dissuade Iran from aiding Shia militias in Iraq, or trying to obtain nuclear capabilities," said Clark, who in 2004 was one of Lieberman's rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination.

"In fact," said Clark, "it's highly irresponsible and counter-productive, and I would urge him to stop."

Lieberman wasn't stopping.

Asked about Clark's remarks, he said, "We've got some enemies out there ... we're not going to defeat them with a lot of talk and warm embraces."

Clark took further aim at Lieberman: "Only someone who never wore the uniform or thought seriously about national security would make threats at this point."

Lieberman got military deferments during the Vietnam era because first he was in college and was later married with children.

Dear XXXX,

Joe Lieberman is at it again

After wrongly supporting George W. Bush's strategic blunder of attacking Iraq, and continuing to support Bush's failed policies after the invasion, Senator Joe Lieberman made irresponsible comments this weekend regarding military action against Iran.

On CBS's Face the Nation, Lieberman said, "If don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me, that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."

This type of "tough-talk" by the Bush Administration and folks like Senator Joe Lieberman is why VoteVets.org and I collaborated to create StopIranWar.com, calling for heavy diplomatic, economic, and political action to discourage the acquisition of nuclear capabilities by the Iranian government.

Over 40,000 people have signed our petition to President Bush, urging him to work with our allies and use every diplomatic, political, and economic option at our disposal to deal with Iran. Add your name to the petition today!

StopIranWar.com

Senator Lieberman's saber rattling does nothing to help dissuade Iran from aiding Shia militias in Iraq, or trying to obtain nuclear capabilities. In fact, it's highly irresponsible and counter-productive, and I urge him to stop.

This kind of rhetoric is irresponsible and only plays into the hands of President Ahmadinejad, and those who seek an excuse for military action. What we need now is full-fledged engagement with Iran. We should be striving to bridge the gulf of almost 30 years of hostility and only when all else fails should there be any consideration of other options. The Iranians are very much aware of US military capabilities. They don't need Joe Lieberman to remind them that we are the militarily dominant power in the world today.

Only someone who never wore the uniform or thought seriously about national security would make threats at this point. What our soldiers need is responsible strategy, not a further escalation of tensions in the region. Senator Lieberman must act more responsibly and tone down his threat machine.

We cannot let people like Joe Lieberman dictate the terms of this debate.

Sign the petition to President Bush today!

StopIranWar.com

Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

13. Bolton wanted Iran to pull out of NPT, to induce "counter-reaction"
Edited on Tue Jun-12-07 03:41 PM by Tom Joad
In a conversation with AIPAC insiders, Bolton said he hoped UN sanctions against Iran would induce a response from Iran that would in turn produce a "counter reaction" from the US. Seems Lieberman and Bolton are cut from the same pro-war cloth.

19. What I don't understand is how these war folks...
..can make statements like Iranians are killing American soldiers, or Iranians having nuclear capabilities, when we do exactly the same thing. They wouldn't be killing American soldiers if we weren't over there killing Iraqi soldiers. They wouldn't have to have nuclear capabilities if we didn't have nuclear capabilities. How can anyone actually believe this nonsense?

The Lieberman Family

Senator Lieberman lives in New Haven and Washington with his wife Hadassah. Together they are the proud parents of four children - Matthew, Rebecca, Ethan and Hana - and three granddaughters, Tennessee, Willie and Eden, and a grandson, Yitzhak.

The child of Holocaust survivors who fled Hitler's regime to start a new life in the U.S., Hadassah grew up in Gardiner, Massachusetts, where her father became the community rabbi.

Hadassah has spent her career working on health issues, assisting non-profit organizations, improving educational standards, and promoting international understanding. She is also devoted to community service, having served on several national nonprofit councils and boards. She continues to be a voice on many important issues facing the nation, such as improving women's health, reducing hurdles faced by immigrants as they strive for the middle class, and the challenge of caring for aging parents.

33. Al-Quaida hates Iran
Al-quaida is a Sunni group, the only thing they hate as much as Americans are Shiites whom they consider to be heretics. Incidentally Iran happens to be the principal Shiite country in the world.

But I guess those are minor "details" for LIEberman who just wants to get his war on... One would assume that before you are willing to spend billions of dollars and potential for millions of lives lost in a war, that at least you would make an effort to get facts right.

I other words: fuck you Lieberman.

28. Didn't he say 90% of the fighters in Iraq are Al Qaeda?
Then he said Iran is training them. Then he said "as many as 200 American" were killed by fighters trained by Iran. Let's see, that's like 8% of the total number of Americans killed in Iraq. So it is apparent to me, just on the surface, that the Iran influence isn't anywhere near is large as these chickenhawks would have us believe.

32. I guess the Iranians must have the same right to attack us...
...after all the US has killed directly more innocent Iranian people than Iran has ever killed Americans:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655

This is the clear double standards, if a bunch of crazies blow up a jetliner it is a barbaric act of cowardice. If an American ship inside Iranian territorial waters shuts down a jetliner, then it is a tragic mistake.

After flight 655, I must say that the Iranian showed a clear restrain.

There is always an enemy, isn't there? Russia, we've always been at war with Russia. Libya, we've always been at war with Libya. Iraq, we've always been at war with Iraq. Iran, we've always been at war with Iran..... sigh.
