WATCH: Documenting America's Perfect Storm Of Homlessness on InvisiblePeople.TV

Mark Horvath is documenting America's 'invisible people'; traveling the country and posting video interviews with Americans living in homelessness. He talks about the project in this video interview and then I posted a couple of the videos from his InvisiblePeople.tv website.

As he explains, the issue of homelessness is not just something we can ignore because the problem is growing. With massive layoffs plaguing the country, the people joining the ranks of the homesless are families, parents, and people who have worked their whole lives.

1. I really hate this meme!
"the people joining the ranks of the homesless are families, parents, and people who have worked their whole lives."

This is just more of the same... divide and conquer.

We should now pay attention BECAUSE it has hit the muddle class??? If that was put in racial terms, there'd be hell to pay. It's put in class terms, and its just fine.

I have news for folks... it's ALWAYS been "families, parents, and people who have worked their whole lives."

So, ignore the pain of those who were homeless before, and now rescue those who are learning the hard way that it can happen to YOU.

2. Agreed.
When it threatens the middle class and "decent people," homelessness is suddenly an issue. It's pure classism. As long as the homeless are only the "drug addicted" and "mentally ill" (people who don't count), nothing needs to be done. But when people who actually matter become homeless, suddenly the issue is worthy of attention.

But since you and I have advocated poverty issues to the point that we are basically persona non-grata on DU regarding this issue, I'm probably wasting my breath.
