Is there an existing "Birth Certificate" that exists that is different than a "Certificate of Birth"? Everytime I hear these birthers talk about this issue, they keep phrasing it as though there is some "Birth Certificate" that exists somewhere that is locked up in a secret safe that is completely different than this "Certificate of Birth" that has been made public ane everybody can see.

Another claim that I have heard before is that his birth certificate has been altered, making it illegitimate. Are they referring to the redacted mark on it?

Last question.... Is this really just thinly veiled racism? That is the first thought that comes to mind to me everytime I hear these birthers.

The birther argument is that they want to see the original birth certificate.

What you, and everyone else has is not an original; it is a certified copy of an original.

The original exists in only one place; the county records, except that most counties, in order to save space, are converting records to electronic format. Either transcribing the information, or digitizing images of the original documents.

The birthers claim that these are copies and not the original.

By that standard of proof, most Americans can no longer prove they are citizens, since most original birth certificates no longer exist; only their electronic copies.

That answers questions one and two.


The answer to question three is yes; it is thinly veiled racism.

I'd like to see one of these talking heads on TV tell these nut job "birthers" that they should put down the Bible and read The Constitution. Just once, for a change. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but Article 14 states "All persons botn or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside." It then goes on to say that the states can't pass any laws to abridge the rights of citizenship. Of course, once they understood that Hawaii actually was a state in 1961, they then grabbed onto what Liddy seemed to be mumbling about, Obama was born in Africa. However, even if this was true, and of course it's not, again...read the damn rules first before doing stupid stuff. Here's the rule if only one parent was a US citizen:

If one parent was a U.S. citizen when the person was born and the citizen parent lived at least five years in the United States before he was born, where at least two of the five years were after the citizen parent attained the age of fourteen.

It's a given that they mis-interpret it.

But this leaves out the part where Mathews shows Liddy the birth announcement that was listed in Honolulu papers. There were 2 that posted it. Liddy, who does seem drugged or ill, gives some lame babble about people wanting their children to be born in the U.S.

Hawaii has two major newspapers, the Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin.
BOTH newspapers include birth announcements, and BOTH newspapers record the August 4th, 1961 birth of Barack Obama.
