Forget the real news we have got a racially tinged, cops vs. black guy story. I guess you saw the President spending the last week talking about America's most vulnerable citizens....The Cambridge police dept. hehe. If you somehow missed this let me catch you up. Perhaps the most prominent scholar in America today, was arrested for being black while home....Yes, apparently in America you can be pulled over for driving a stolen couch. Except this was his house, that's the part that I object to. It was his house! You know what happened he was coming back from a trip, from China. So he arrives back and his door is somehow stuck so he's trying to get into his house and his neighbor Gladis Travis calls the police. What kind of burglar trys to break into a house with luggage, that's what I want to know. And the police officer, Officer Crowley. Sounds like something out of Gilbert and Sullivan 'Officer Crowley'. Apparently he said Prof. Lewis was threatening and by threatening he meant he was an educated black man...*sardonic retort*
The police in Cambridge said it had nothing to do with him being black, they said they'd of done the same with any minority... I dig the police of course it's easy to criticize the police.. That all changes of course when you need one. When it's late at night and you're walking through the bad park ... of Henry Lewis Gates' living room.
So this of course then became an even bigger story, because then of course Obama was asked about it in the press conference the other day and said Crowley or Cambridge police acted 'stupidly'. For arresting a cat burglar in his own home. Now President Obama says he regrets saying stupid, what he meant was r****ded!*sardonic*
And the Cambridge police commissioner said, that he was deeply pained by the remarks, really. The head of the police union in Cambridge but it offended police not just in his district but around the country and asked for tissue as his mascara was running.
I mean it's comforting to know that the men with the guns, the mace and the Tazers and license to kill, have this thin a skinned, isn't it.
