2. I was waiting for him to ask if SHE was born in America
given her accent.

Then he had the balls to have Arianna Huffington on next, and asked her if SHE
was born in the US.

Also if she was faking her accent.

He's awesome, and my right-wing-nut siblings actually watch him.

Too bad they don't learn enough from him.

4. I can't speak for your siblings...
but I think a lot of the right wingers just don't get him and take his act seriously. That's why they continue to go on his show and be made fools of, and yet at the end, they always appear to believe they are in complete agreement with him.

Colbert is the BEST at it and the poor bastards don't even realize they're being ridiculed.

It only proves their insanity.

15. Fooey, I rec'ed it. I thought it funny. Someone can unrec it if they want.
Her legal theory is apparently that EVEN IF Barak was born
in Hawaii, he is not a "natural born" citizen because his
father wasn't a US citizen???

Doesn't she know about the doctrine of Jus soli??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jus_soli

"It thus clearly appears that by the law of England for the last three centuries, beginning
before the settlement of this country, and continuing to the present day, aliens, while
residing in the dominions possessed by the crown of England, were within the allegiance,
the obedience, the faith or loyalty, the protection, the power, and the jurisdiction of
the English sovereign; and therefore every child born in England of alien parents was a
natural-born subject, unless the child of an ambassador or other diplomatic agent of a
foreign state, or of an alien enemy in hostile occupation of the place where the child
was born. III. The same rule was in force in all the English colonies upon this continent
down to the time of the Declaration of Independence, and in the United States afterwards,
and continued to prevail under the constitution as originally established." 169 U.S. 649,
(1898) United States v. Wong Kim Ark

whose parents weren't U.S. citizens but he was born here.

28. Apparently a good President, too. But that doesn't quite settle it...
since there seems to have been no legal challenge.

The quibble, which is all it appears to be, seems to be over
the definition of "natural born", a qualification of office
for the President of the US.

However the lack of clarity by proponents seems deliberate and presumptively to obscure,
confuse, and conflate for the 15 minutes of fame and distraction
it takes to figure out what the F* these idiots are babbling about.

Of course WE know what some of them are actually talking about: The color
of the president's skin. The others are talking about it to detract
attention from Health Care Reform debate. A bunch of incredibly stupid
whackouts is always more entertaining than debating Health Care (alas).

But NOBODY (including us) really thinks its about "natural born".

Which is why, I insist on explaining this "great unsettled question" of
American Jurisprudence. Or NOT. OK, its like this: First, if you hold
"naturalized" citizenship, which is a formal process requiring paperwork,
an oath and some swearing (I'm not making this up!), you are NOT a
'natural born' citizen and can't be POTUS. Sorry.

However, if you were born in the US, including the state of Hawaii, and
unless you fall into an SPECIFIC SET OF WELL SETTLED EXCEPTIONS, there is a pretty
good chance you are a 'natural born' citizen. Pretty good chance.
Then, of course, you can run for and be elected POTUS. Yea!

And if some nutcase wants to make an issue of it after you take office,
they can bring a suit which will be dismissed for lack of standing,
for there is a statutory process for contesting such things during the
electoral process (we don't actually elect the POTUS, the electors do).

But for a while at least, the RW whackouts can pretend to feed on it like
it was red meat, even though it will give them no nutrition and very bad gas.

25. I think what they are saying...
...is that since, according to them, Kenya grants him citizenship because of his father's citizenship he is thus a dual citizen and thus not elegible to be president. Although I never read or was taught that this was the case. Only that you had to be born on US soil. This is also probably where they get the both your parents have to be citizens shit. Think of all the dual citizens out there. many in politics.

These people are racist nuts and just can't handle the black.

32. I couldn't believe she said that!
And the whacko birthers probably believe it even though everyone must know people who have parents who weren't born in the U.S. Colbert played her beautifully. One of his better moments.

21. She could be an avatar to represent the birthires like Joe the Plumber.
She did not seem to have any emotional attachment to the issue, and seemed to be more about self promotion.

I think the whole birther thing is a distraction to give the crazies something to talk about. If they talked about any real issues they might stumble on some logic or rational thought.

Imagine if they started to think about the insurance/health issue, they might break through and see some of the limitations of unregulated monopoly capitalism. If they think about birther issue, they will never have a thought that could wake them up.

Edited on Wed Jul-29-09 02:05 AM by Jack Rabbit
And hasn't been disabused of any of the misconceptions she learned there.

Obama was born in Hawaii. Even if both of his parents were Kenyan, he would be a natural-born American citizen.

The birther movement is whacky. On top of that, Ms. Taitz is ignorant.

24. How could anyone have a Social Security number 190 years old?
Social Security was enacted in 1935, 79 years ago.

Even worse, let's say that somebody was 100 years old in 1935 and got a Social Security number. They wouldn't be 190 years old right now.

Shit, this lady crazy.
