4. Good for him..at least he has the balls to admit he was wrong... |

You can't blame congress for believing the propaganda at the time..they were afraid as were a lot of Americans and some were threatened with anthrax as well. But we MUST blame those who are not getting us OUT right now because now we know it was all a big fat LIE!

6. The only thing they were afraid of was the possibility that if |
|
they refused to authorize an illegal war, they might not get reelected, because the media were helping CheneyBushCo to stamepde the public.
Also, the Republicans heard from Rove that they could use the war against the Dems to retain and increase power, so in addition to wanting to avoid reelection difficulty, they were very willing to use the war to hammer Dems.
Jones ended up regretting his vote and his demagoguery ("Freedom Fries," anyone?) because he at least has a heart and a conscience that could be moved by the plight of the wounded troops he visited in the hospital and by the grief of the families who lost loved ones in the war.
I suspect that like many, he thought the war would be a cakewalk, so he wasn't expecting to have to deal with actual casualties, but unlike many, especiially many Republicans, he found that when real American casualties started happening, his heart was touched by such pain and sorrow.
Still, he has not, as far as I know, expressed remorse over the fact that we have destroyed the lives of so many innocent Iraqis--not just in terms of the million or so who have died as a result of this war, but in terms of the total destruction of civil society in Iraq and the incredible regression in the condition of women in that country.

10. Never would have had this "guilty conscience" if the repugs were still calling the shots. |
|
This piece of shit has blood on his hands, as do ALL the legislators who rubber stamped this illegal and unnecessary war...Democrats and repukes alike.
These repukes played their cards and called the rest of us "traitors" and "cut and runners" for wanting to put an end to this senseless war. Well, FUCK HIM, and fuck them all that perpetuated this murdering of nearly a million innocent Iraqis and our military.
STILL, these sons of bitches focus ONLY on the loss of American life. What about those innocent Iraqis who died for this travesty? Where is their justice.
This legislator should toss and turn in his sleep for the rest of his days, as should bush and cheney and the rest of this sinister mob that orchestrated this crime!!

5. Jones and Rep. Robert Ney were the ones who led the "freedom fries" charge |
|
because they were so angry at France's opposition to invading Iraq.
I wonder what happened that Jones had his epiphany on Iraq.

Jones' district is not heavily populated but has a lot of military families in it. He saw how the war was affecting his constituents and heard their complaints and it got to him.
So too of my rep in the district just south McIntyre....who's a blue dog Dem. He saw how his military folks didn't like it and suffered too and greatly drew back his support.

13. Having to write a few thousand letters |

To families whose fathers, sons, brothers, mothers, sisters, and daughters were sent off to invade a country without proper justification would sober most up (Cheney being one of the exceptions).
