12. If anything the fundies are a cult. |

Fundies don't define yoga. And this little film clip certainly doesn't define yoga. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga

2. I'm willing to allow for my bias, but this is one creepy fuck. |
|
For those who will point out that he's free to promote whatever agenda he wishes, I'll agree.
...but the act of publicly promoting things also allows people to comment...and I think this is over-the-top creepy.

11. To be fair, Nader has a more impressive legislative record |
|
than any president since FDR. It's not at all unreasonable to suggest that he could have gotten the job done over the course of eight years, if given the opportunity.

1) Over the course of 8 years - funny how so few seem to be willing to allow that kind of leway to the man who actually got elected (not saying you are one of teh impatient)
2) Nader has zero legislative record as far as I know. Was he ever elected to any public office?

22. There is a huge number of laws for which Nader and his followers are primarily responsible |
|
Mostly they deal with consumer and environmental protection. Some of the most important include the Wholesome Meat Act, the Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. In terms of the safety of our vehicles, food, air, water and places of work, the legislation on Nader's agenda has brought massive improvements to the daily lives of Americans. Both in terms of the success of the items on his agenda and the positive impact that have had, Nader puts any modern president to shame.
As far as I know, Nader has never held any elective office. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't speak of his legislative successes. Note that presidents can't introduce legislation to Congress, either. But we wouldn't hesitate to talk about the success or failure of a president's agenda.
To be fair, I should point out that presidents have a lot more to do than just push for legislation, but on the other hand they have the bully pulpit from which to pronounce their priorities and deliver an address to Congress at the start of each year laying out their priorities, which is something that private citizens don't get to do.

23. Nader was a GREAT consumer advocate. |
|
He WAS a driving force behind legislation written and enacted at local and federal levels. But he was never inside the government for a very important reason: he is best in the agitator role, not the inside the machine role. Too bad his ego went so far 'round the bend in the last ten years or so, so that what is important is his glorification, not the advance of progressive agenda.

I use to watch him and laugh like I have never laughed since! He was my all time favorite TV Evangelist! I was almost moved to go into that career field but I could not rape others simply because they believe in such garbage. He would actually tell people to mail him their welfare check! He really did not care at all! Of course, what TV Evangelist does!
I do have a heart even though I have always been a godless heathen!

10. Was that supposed to be "tongue in cheek" humor? |
|
If not, it closely resembles the image that the RW constantly tries to hang on us "Kumbaya-singing, Latte-drinking LIB'RALS".
In 2000, as an exercise in political purism, I supported and voted the Nader ticket. It wasn't intended to get Bush elected; rather it was to send a message to the people who had selected Lieberman and that other guy. I took a few lumps whenever I mentioned that on DU. So now I, a "lapsed anarchist", am a supporter of a principled pragmatist, and as fervently as I've ever been in all my misguided 79.5 years. I get a few lumps for that too!
QUESTION: How many of those "hard-headed pragmatists" of 2000, are also the same "principled purists" of 2009? (The lumps feel the same)

Nadar was a great consumer advocate and there are probably a lot of folks alive today that might not have been because of the information that he brought to the forefront in his day.
