:hi:Note: I wasn't sure if I should post parts 2 and 3 in separate posts, or if I should just let folks here use the links at the bottom of this post. I welcome comments about this, as I don't think the forum rules address this issue.

(This is part 2 of 3).

Operation Ivy is a 1953 Civil Defense film about the first H-Bomb test in 1952

I found this film in the Internet Archive and uploaded it last night after boosting the sound and fixing the audio sync problem in the second half of the film. I also brightened and color corrected the picture wherever I could too.

I don't know if they still show these movies in the public schools anymore, but they should. Even though this film is rather old and dated, it still does a terrific job showing how much destruction and damage just one H-Bomb would do to any city in the world.

This is part 1 of 3 which includes part of President Eisenhower's speech to the U.N. and explains the preparation for the "mike shot," definitely worth watching, but if all you want to see is the detonation and the damage assessments, you could skip to part 2.

1. Well, I thank you for posting them here.........
for some reason I can't play videos on youtube. I get a message that I either have Java script turned off or that I don't have the current version of flash installed, both of which are bullshit. I have no problem with any other videos anywhere, just youtube. Again, thanks for posting them here. I remember these films from my youth (yeah, I'm THAT old ;) ) and I agree that perhaps all people could use a refresher course about the effects of nuclear warfare. I lived through this crap as a teenager and it stuck in my mind like a titanium dart.
When the announcer said "the fantastic world of megatons" I wanted to hurl. Yeah, just fantastic. :eyes: Thanks again. :)

4. You might need turn off whatever you have that blocks cookies for...
...a few minutes, when you go to YouTube. When I go there, I can't see my "video log" videos on my Channel page if I go there with my Norton Internet Security on, but when I turn off NIS and switch to the WindowsXP Firewall, I can see them.

I think YouTube needs to set a temporary Cookie for it to work right or might need to read some info that your firewall is blocking.

Since I haven't gotten any negative comments yet about this multi-part post, I think I'll post part 3 too, I'll add a link when I have it.

Here's another old, but still relevant film on Democracy that I uploaded to YouTube, at this link too:

2. Cool...
I like watching those kind of old films. I'd prefer that the detonations remain theoretical, though BushCo does not seem to share in my desires.

I know it's only a matter of time until there is a nuclear detonation used in anger, but I'd rather it be as rare and as far in the future as possible.

3. Love that site.
The Prelinger Archives are awesome!

I have a film I made a year and a half ago from the material on that site; either search for "cinema miscellanea" or go to Google video here:

I'm working on a new one right now.

6. And now, thanks to George, you too can have THE BOMB.
That is frightening. And disgusting.

I just can't believe the amount of energy we have put into wasteful efforts. It's sick.

Thanks for posting that. I had never seen it before.
