2. That's what I've been telling people (perhaps thinking of Turley).
It's actual defiance of the law which means something. Where it is unsupported by the constitution. Far be it from me to imply that Congress is ALWAYS right in how it crafts its laws.

4. The Supreme Court has found line item veto bills passed by Congress
to be unconstitutional. How in the world can Bush think his signing statements pass the muster?

5. Because he thinks it's just declaring that the original legislation itself
is unconstitutional...

6. The signing statements are meaningless and yet the
president continues to abuse the power of the executive branch by re-writing law with these statments! So, we know but what is being done to stop it? Same ole, same old: point out abuses by the president and do nothing....he isn't going to stop. * has the Congress in his hands. He can veto everything they pass and hold the Congress powerless....or interpret the law with signing statements. He needs to go. imho

7. "They have to put something behind their rhetoric, they have to get tough"
and to start witholding funds, witholding confirmations,..."

Boy wouldn't that be a breath of fresh air.

11. Sigh... the fact is, Congress doesn't posses the balls to get tough
they don't possess the spine to challenge bush for what the constitution spells out to be their role in the government of this country. They all shrink back when it's time to rally forth.

9. Turley for SCOTUS if a Dem ever gets elected and seat available !
His casework on Area51 employees, although he lost, shows he's on the people's side, not corporations or 'national security/MI complex''s pocket.

12. 1,100 Reasons to Impeach --
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 05:19 PM by defendandprotect
The Congress is responsible for deciding whether the legislation/laws are being carried out by the President and government agencies according to the spirit and intent with which Congress enacted them. That they have left anything this serious without major protest is sickening.

It's also nonsense that this Democratic Congress can't control things --
When GOP is in the majority they succeed in controlling everything, nonetheless!
