at the very end a reporter asks him, why, with everything else going on, and the war going on, why choose health care for a film topic

MM: there's a member of Parliament in this film that says "if you can find money to kill people you can find money to help people." they found the money to do this war. i don't ever want to hear again we don't have the money to take care of our own citizens when they get sick.

good point. we found the money to do a war--LET'S FIND THE MONEY FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.

1. I liked his "house on fire" analogy!
I think I'll use that argument during the next "healthcare requires 'individual responsibility'" debate with my family/friends/co-workers.

6. In the clip posted earlier where Michael was on the view
there was an African American girl (some people on here said she was a fundie) and Michael had told her that Jesus said we will be judged on how we treat the least of those among us. The Fundie girl said Moore was wrong about what Jesus said because he didn't mean that we would go into the pocket of our neighbor to get help for ourselves. This was one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard a fundie say (and I have heard plenty of whoppers from them).

We "go into each others" pockets for almost everything in our society. Roads, firehouses, police, schools, FAA so we get an inspected airplane with good rules on air safety, Social Security, National Defense, the Coast Guard if you have a problem at sea, one could go on all day. The seriousness in my opinion from the fundies ignorance is that the going in to each others pockets for health care not making sense should be the most obvious. No one of us would ever be able to afford all the research and equipment necessary to develop our own drugs, build our own testing equipment, or pay a team of doctors to train themselves nearly their whole lives to learn how to be a doctor. Even using insurance is going in to each others pockets it isn't like the money you pay is coming out of an individual account.

The point Moore is making, and thank God he is doing that, is that we shouldn't have the Health Insurance companies in the equation looting everyone out of money. Take for example UnitedHealth Group. That company right now has a market cap of 68 Billion! Their CEO, from executive paywatch, made last year:

William W. McGuire
Chief Executive Officer
UnitedHealth Group Incorporated

The proxy statement for UnitedHealth Group Incorporated uses the new SEC executive compensation rules.

In 2006, William W. McGuire raked in $12,049,699 in total compensation according to the SEC. However, according to the AFL-CIO's calculation method*, he raked in $8,748,422 in total 2006 compensation.

Not only is this company raking it in, along with the CEO, but they are making SO MUCH money that they pay a DIVIDEND. I would much rather see this company lower its costs than to charge more and pay a dividend to their shareholders.

Take a look at part of their income statement from Yahoo Finance:

Revenue (ttm): 73.01B
Revenue Per Share (ttm): 54.423
Qtrly Revenue Growth (yoy): 8.30%
Gross Profit (ttm): 17.64B
EBITDA (ttm): 7.97B
Net Income Avl to Common (ttm): 4.20B
Diluted EPS (ttm): 3.00
Qtrly Earnings Growth (yoy): 4.00%

Think about how much members rates would go down if this company went non-profit.

4. He's so un-American
Insurance involved in health care is as American as baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet. Glad I got my marching orders while listening to Hannity today!!!

5. MM is an excellent advocate for universal health care,
He has presented a well studied view of a hugely unjust and again corrupt extension of our greedy corporate government.

I'm so glad Moore mentioned the Taiwan system, it's great.
