1. Conservatism will only die when the conservatives are all dead. And even then, maybe not.
Because the cruelty and baser instincts that underlie conservative "ideas" are present in human beings. Those instincts are not easily overcome, as evident by the perpetuation of evil that comes from the reich.

Still, as a short-term solution, it works for me.

2. Yes, conservatism is dead. That's why Dems are steamrolling their programs thru Congress.
I think that conservatives would love for us to believe that conservatism is dead.

3. Republicanism is dead...but the spineless, corporate paid-off new Dems will help republicans make
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 04:16 PM by GreenTea
a comeback...

We the people absolutely need a Public Option to stuff down the republicans ideological throats and the corporate machines throats as well, the same republican corporate fascism that keeps us working slaves without a union voice...to demand health care, better wages & salaries, sick & vacation time and on the job safety.

Remember every "conservative" votes republican 100% of the time (they certainly don't vote Democratic or Green) so I call them what the fucking are...NOT the GOP, conservatives, righties, right-wing....but slimy lying hateful greedy republicans!

4. Conservatism, By Definition, Is Always Dying, But Corporatism Is Alive and Well
Stopping progress is like holding back the ocean with a broom. Conservatism is rooted in the false belief that yesterday is superior to today. It's really nothing more than nostalgia. Pat Buchannan is the true voice of conservatism in that he believes that if we elect the right people and enact the right policies, then we can go back to the 1950s.

But what conservatives, and liberals for that matter, don't seem to understand is that corporatism, the ideology that all public policies should be for the benefit of large corporations, is the true ascendant power in our democracy. It has no party identification. On health care, it will side with the conservatives. On immigration, it will side with the progressives. It will bounce from issue to issue, from allegiance to allegiance, all based on what's better for the corporate bottom line.

No matter who is elected to office, corporatism will always, always win in the end.
