I really appreciate what she had to say on the issue. When I was in high school, I had a 19-year-old boyfriend who ended up sleeping in his car because he lost his job, didn't have money to pay rent, and didn't have a family he could turn to for support. Now I live in downtown Portland, Oregon and I know that right now at this very moment there are people sleeping on the sidewalk outside my apartment building, some of them probably teenagers. There's a major housing crisis happening in this country, as anyone living in a major city should be able to tell you...and I hope Congress will realize that we desperately need more money for public housing and other programs to deal with the issue.
