I think this abhorrent behaviour adds weight to the definition of these assholes I came up with in March: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=277516&mesg_id=278168

1.  Okay,I'm gonna get in trouble here. Just because she is in a
wheelchair doesn't exempt her from criticism, whether you agree with her critics or not.

4. But there is no criticism, just uncalled-for rudeness and nastiness. nt

5. She was only trying to speak
and they were heckling her. That kind of behavior is why this debate on health care is in the sorry state it is.

10. Then she was a speaker that was being treated rudely, the
wheelchair had nothing to do with it as the OP suggested.

That's all I meant. The 2 people I know in wheelchairs want to be treated the same as everyone else, and unfortunately that also includes being treated in a less than a civilized manner on occasion.

What a world!

12. I read what you said.
In fact, it's still there for me to read again. Here, I'll quote you. "Just because she is in a
wheelchair doesn't exempt her from criticism, whether you agree with her critics or not." Again, where is the criticism? And I doubt very seriously your wheelchair bound friends desire to be treated rudely and prevented from voicing their concerns about this country's health care system.

17. I didn't "suggest" anything. Just stating a fact.

She was in a wheelchair, wasn't she? Those people behave like misanthropic sociopaths, don't they?

If you call that "criticism". But hey, go ahead and defend those ass wipes. Let's hear it. What were the "criticisms"? Love to hear your take. Should be very interesting.

11. You have a point
Their behavior towards her would have been inexcusable even if she were healthy!

This kind of thing makes me wonder what happened to the manners I was raised to believe in. There is no substance to their whining and shouting down of this poor woman who has a very legitimate comment to add to the debate, it is simply disruptive for the sake of being disruptive. Watching clips like this one make me believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that many of these disruptive elements at the town halls are not there because they are concerned citizens but because they are being compensated to end the discussion.

13. That might be true
though as others have pointed out, no one was criticizing her, just trying to shout her down. Also being in a wheel chair in this instance is relevant to the discussion being she is talking about the illness that caused her to end up in a wheel chair.

If the town hall meeting was about energy or global warming, then the wheel chair would be inconsequential.

16. She has a right to give her story
and people need to be respectful and listen to it. Her personal battles with insurance companies are totally a good reason for people to listen to WHY she is in a wheel chair and what kind of horrors shes living through if she needs to get to this point to ask for help.

6. Everything in your other post reminds me of Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, and so on
The lying, inability to feel remorse, and the leaving of victims all over the place fits each one of those jerks to a T.

7. She SHOULD Have Said........
.......that she was in a wheelchair because she lost the use of her legs while serving in Iraq. Then the mouth-breathers would have bent over backwards clapping for her. They would have all looked like that little toy monkey with the cymbals that claps them together and does backflips. In fact, the Republicans should just put a bunch of those toy monkeys in the seats at their events. They're all "invitation only" scripted events anyway.

I bet that guy there at the end that screamed at her went home and told all his buddies about what a big man he was too. Yeah, Republicans are REAL tough. Especially if the person they're trying to intimidate is a woman, or elderly, or in a wheelchair, or some combination of all three. Or they're carrying a piece (because everyone knows it takes a REAL tough guy to carry a gun).

20. Why lie?
This was a citizen speaking the truth about her own personal experience.

9. The woman
was merely stating facts related to her condition. There was no argument to rebut, let alone a reason to shout her down. People who behave like that are very trashy, authoritarian ass kissers, bitter haters and powder keg paranoids. Please don't anyone make any excuses for these assholes.

19. Disgusting attempt to suppress the truth
The worst part is not the small number of extreme-right agitators who would yell nonsense to prevent people hearing someone tell their own story.

The worst part is the much larger number of right-leaning so-called moderate Republicans who are happy to sit back and let them do it.
