There is no bill to read introduced By Weiner, what has been promised is a vote on an amendment to HR 3200 which would substitute a SP system for the current proposal.

A staff member at Weiner's office told me yesterday that there is nothing to read, supposedly something has recently been sent to the CBO to score, exactly what that is remains a mystery.

1. "Could the trigger work?" Is his answer NO?
Because I don't want to waste my time.

4. Basically he said that we are already waiting a long time, nothing
will happen until 2013 and then there is still another five year grace period.

I would say no - we have already waited too long and the current bill is already kicking the can down the road enough.

2. He is right. A strong public option, or single payer.

3. Let's give these insurance co. a few more years to try and behave?
Boy what would the incintive be? Why does this sound like stonewalling? Our elected officials need to grow up. People are dying and can't wait a few more years for the death panels to do the right thing, because they never will.

6. The greatest incentive would be profits for investors and funding
of campaigns.

We need someone to fight for the people, not the corporations.

13. trigger? 10 years? We need to take dead aim at the insurance companies now and "pull the trigger"
if they continue to obscure the debate and oppose a public option.

8. There IS something to read...
It's right here...

http://www.pnhp.org/docs/nhi_bill_final1.pdf

The 1100 pages of HR3200 would be replaced by the 30 pages of this bill, HR676...if the Weiner Amendment passes.

11. That is a good read, but I was referring to what Schuster said
was a bill introduced by Weiner. I was told by Weiner's office yesterday that there is no amendment to read and they have no idea when the CBO will score...something???

Hopefully soon!

17. The Dems refuse to have the CBO score the bill
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 11:45 PM by ProudDad
We checked. The CBO is swamped and won't score a bill unless a committee chairman (like Conyers!!!) asks them to.

And he won't ask them to score HR676 even though he's the sponsor because the CBO would find, as they did in the early 90s, that single-payer would save us $300-400 BILLION a year to start.

There's no Amendment to read because the "Weiner Amendment" to HR3200 is to be a replacement motion; to replace the language of HR3200 with the language of HR676.

Mr. Weiner (one of the best, by the way) was "bought off", silenced in committee when it comes to any discussion of any form of single-payer or effective, comprehensive, affordable Health Care by being given a vote on a replacement Amendment in September (maybe)...which will doubtless lose since the USAmerican people are ignorant of the true state or possible viable options to for-profit-USAmerikan-Sick Care.

22. This is worse than in the early 90's, at least they scored some single-payer
bills :(

Weiner's staff member said it would be similar to HR 676. I agree that it will lose, most people do not know what SP is and there has already been a campaign to silence, marginalize and misrepresent a bill that was never on the table. Great job!

:sarcasm:

10. Weiner is the most articulate, thoughtful and forceful spokesman for substantial health care reform
a voice of reason. Is it worth compromising substantial reform to get what looks like just ONE Republican senator on board? NO.

12. Agree, it has already been compromised enough...
also I agree with Kucinich.

Dennis Kucinich: Here's What We Need to Do on Health Care (People 'Compromising their Compromises')

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=350754&mesg_id=350754

"...The third step ... we need to redouble our efforts toward the single-payer movement nationally. Everywhere, as a national construct. No matter what happens with this bill. This bill could eventually fall of its own weight. There are so many compromises being made, people are compromising their compromises which were already being compromised - this is so compromised a bill, and after a while people meet their shadow coming around the corner. There's confusion, but there's the possibility that the thing could go down. We have to be ready with the only solution that exists - and that is 676, the bill that John Conyers and I worked on together, that is the single-payer solution. And that's part of a national movement..."

We will have four more years to do education.

They won't pass anything this year that won't make things worse...

So in 2013, after another 80,000+ have died from no health coverage, and another 80,000+ have died from health insurance company "death panels", we'll come back and try it again...

Hopefully, if it is Obama in 2013, he'll have learned something...Like that he was right back when he was in the Illinois Legislature...

On Edit:

WITH the Kucinich Amendment, there's a very good chance that California will go single-payer once Newsome or Brown gets rid of the steroidengroppenfuhrer...
