4. Overweight kid with bad parents talks back and demands junk food? |
|
I'm not sure that's all that hard to believe. Yes, generically speaking you can never be sure that what you see on these (and many other) shows is completely accurate as opposed to being completely or partially scripted or at least egged on.
But even if this particular video is fake, I could totally see it happening.

This little boy seems to enjoy trying to "regain his power" that he believes has been upsurped. He's fighting someone who is:
1) older than he is, i.e., an adult versus a child;
2) he's white and southern, and he's trying to get things back the way he thinks they belong, therefore:
a) a man tells a woman which end is up, not the other way around; and
b) white boys always trumps the black woman/slave.
HOW DARE YOU "STARVE" ME?! It should be reverse. I control you.
That's what's behind the tantrum, using junk food as the excuse.

8. Is this a clip from that horrid wife-swap reality show? |
|
I wouldn't know, since I've avoided watching it...until now.
From that clip, I get the sense that the producers are using the show as a platform for little 'morality plays' that they're inserting into the larger scheme of the show. Americans would do better by going to the theater instead of watching this highly-contrived codswollop on TV.

12. There use to be a show on TLC called "Honey, We're Killing the Kids." |
|
It was about changing the family eating habits. And these poor kids, omg, they would so addicted to the sugars, they would literally fall apart without it. I always feel so sorry for the kids. They don't understand their addiction to sugar, and their little bodies go haywire without it once the addiction is that strong. What it particularly addicting, from my understand anyway, if the high fructose corn syrup. We read labels and don't regularly buy items with that ingrediant. When we eat out, or have the occasionally soda, omg, do I feel this kind of low-level high. It makes me jittery and crazy. I can't imagine how these kids feel knowing that they're going to be crashing. They may not be aware enough to articulate it, but they know they "need" these foods. I don't condone sass mouth kids, believe me, nothing makes me crazier. But I think I know where this little guy may be coming from- at least dietary. I also think it has a lot to do with the opinion posted upthread regarding social positioning, etc., but not having seen but the one minute thirty seconds posted in the above video, I think the dietary addiction is one reason for the behavior.

21. Yours is one of the more thoughtful posts in response to this video |
|
I have witnessed similar behavior in my own children that is much more indicative of an addiction than of misbehavior - seems all rules fly out the window when certain foods are restricted - just like an addict trying to get their fix. We saw this in our own kids when we took high fructose corn syrup out of our diet and limited many sugars and processed white flour products.

22. Bacon is the least of that kid's problems. |
|
Based on his phrasing and tone I'd wager he's parroting how his parents deal with family conflict. And that's a much bigger deal than being a chubby little dude who can't live without his aerosol process cheese food product.
