1. Maxine did a good job in getting the message out - I hope the President is listening
and she was good at jumping on Pence - who is a slow motion train wreck of the GOP

and a complete 2-faced liar about the Republican Party being willing to support a bill the Democrats come up with no matter what it entails

3. I think mostly the effort to try to work with the right is to expose their unwillingness to ...

work with Democrats. Sure we know that they don't co-operate but not everyone does. If Obama continually highlights his efforts to work with Republicans and they reject it. It becomes self evident what they are about. The Republicans have played a good game of looking the victims in the past President Obama by being respectful is showing them the victimizer. Now it may not seem that coming across but health care is contentious both sides of the political debate but it is coming across. They've cleverly made us look the victimizer in the past, but just by being decent and actively so he's shown them for who they are. President Obama's method may not be dictatorial but it's very subtly exposing Republican party who are just out for their self interest alone. Sure there is denial factor going on by their voters but it will only become more apparent the more he emphasizes his efforts to work with them. IN a perfect world yes, we'd have them nowhere near health reform bill construction, but democracy dictates at the very least there has to be an attempt and sure that's not how they work, but that's where the activism comes in to change the poltical landscape and raise more awareness on every issue.

4. of course not
Republicans can only support corporations not Americans. Supporters of the Republican Party should take note how the GOP is undermining their welfare and interest, as well as their pocketbooks.

6. Yes she did. And she remained quiet, soft spoken and well
Versed on the issue. I'd have probably reached over and strangled the bastard, but she was effective in her restraint.

7. Me, too.
That's why it's a good thing she is the Rep and not me or you.

Be sure to call her office and commend her--they appreciate hearing that, because you can be sure they are getting plenty of hate mail and calls!

8. Ya know what -- I started calling her office every two weeks or so
And if I had no demands to make, I just said "Thank you for being her staff, and please pass on my thanks to Maixne as well."

Her staff is every bit as sweet and smart as she is. And they sound genuinely taken aback that they are appreciated.

But then, I call the office in Washington, where The Power Corrupts and Absolute Power corrupts meme is alive and proven true every moment of every day. So I am sure a lot of their interactions are with some real scum suckers.

:applause:

Beautifully done!

I don't call that often, but, I think I will take a page from your book and begin to0 do so.

I'd LOVE to see President Waters in the Oval Office!

I had the experience once of calling yet another thank you to another Black Caucus member, who got teary because I was "the first one to call with a positive response". At one point, she whispered, "We're getting death threats!"

Now, how would it feel to be working for the best for the nation, and the best for the citizens, and get death threats and NO calls of support?

We MUST remember to thank those who are on the front lines for us!

11. Fundamentalists do not compromise
Republicans are fundamentalists (of various types - religious fundamentalists, conservative fundamentalists, anti-government fundamentalists, etc.). Fundamentalists do not compromise. When fundamentalists negotiate, their goal is to win. Period. To them, negotiate means to argue and manipulate until you win. Negotiating with fundamentalists is a fool's game.
