I "Ask(ed) Anthony Weiner" if HR676, the Single Payer bill, would be scored by the Congressional Budget Office. Scoring by the CBO is done to rate a bills economical effect and viability. The bill IS going before the House and hence IS being scored! This video is Weiners reply to my question!

THIS IS GREAT NEWS- Single Payer IS going to the floor of The House for a vote, JUST AS PROMISED by Pelosi and Waxman!

13. Didn't know that
That is cool. Al Gore and Tommy Lee Jones were roommates in college too, but I think that one is more well known.

9. Weiner
Anthony Weiner is doing more for the people in this health care debate than any other one hundred members of Congress put together. His tireless efforts to counter the corporate media (AKA: MSM) BULLSHIT with cogent FACTS is heroic and compassionate.

Nice work on your part, Dom. Thanks for being a good citizen.

12. Edwards
JOhn Edwards was my SECOND CHOICE in the primaries after Dennis dropped out. I liked Edwards because of his very strong stance on Health Care Reform.

And during the summer of 2008 I HAD A GOOD SECURE JOB. I worked for the biggest machine tool builder in the world for 6-1/2 years, a Japanese company that is family owned and beholden to no bankers or stock market. Alas, capital equipment was ravaged by the down turn and since last November, all the builders have been trying to survive on 30 to 40% of what they used to make. So, I was the age 50 to 64 layoff fodder that now faces complete economic oblivion if health care is not reformed. Prospects for another job are nil, so I'm starting my own business. Slowly, really on the cheap.

I am in very good shape now, but my wife almost died twice in the last 2 years and the COBRA will run out June 2010. Then I'll be part of the 14,000 people PER DAY (DO I HAVE THAT FACTOID CORRECT????) that loses their health insurance, if health care is not turned in to an American RIGHT instead of a privilege.

My concerns originally were about the injustice and unfairness and Darwinism of the American corporate health care system. No American should have to face lack of health care or be bankrupted just because they get sick. ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE GOOD JOBS WITH SO CALLED GOOD INSURANCE!

Now it's a matter that effects me directly and if everything went bad, could eventually cause my wife and I to loose everything we worked for our whole lives!

And I am not acting solely in my self interest, there are so many in much much worse shape and I can only rely on our government to please, this time, do it for we, the People! There is too much suffering in America to allow this barbaric health care system to remain largely intact!

Obama will be a single term President and the Republicans will gain back congressional seats if Substantial Health Care Reform is not accomplished shortly. If it passes, the magnificent benefits of a public option or Medicare for all will bring so much happiness and well being to ALL AMERICANS that this cretinous corporate tea bagger racist fight of the tiny minority nutcase uber-fringes will look like a distant aberration along the lines of Orson Welles War of the Worlds broadcast of 1939!

14. that 14,000 number is, sadly, correct.
Weiner is the person I first heard say- "Healthcare is NOT a commodity". Explaining Single Payer ha asks- "What do Insurance Companies bring to the deal?" Going on to say that they take 30% off the top, pocketing that money BEFORE paying doctors and hospitals. This is for what- finding the best bargain? Securing the date for a procedure? Getting the best price for medication? No- they perform none of these functions any better than MediCare does at only a 3% operating cost. No- that 27% goes to profit.

Jimmy- great post... may I use some portions anonymously if called to? Or you can be properly credited...

Thanks!

Dom

15. Sure
don't need no stinkin' credit.

One question I always ask is what that guy that runs UHC do, exactly, to earn his 812,000 a day salary?

Does he not take breaks and works through lunch? does he return 180 phone calls an hour? Who are the over rich fools that hire a guy and give them such obscene compensation?

To paraphrase Frank Zappa: "What can this guy do that's fantastic?"

Thanks for the compliment, by the way. I keep plugging away and it's nice to resonate with somebody here, eventually.

PS - on a personal note, I did crew work on a nostalgia FUEL FUNNY CAR at Lebanon Valley Dragway Sunday. First time out with 85% nitro. A 45 year dream come true. Short 330 foot check out pass, driver shifted early to cure the tire shake, still rattled, so he clicked it. Took the motor apart and nothing was hurt! I was just the apprentice gopher. Still fun, though.

16. Dude- I hear guys at work talkin that shit all the time and have absolutely NO IDEA
what they're saying! In that whole last paragraph the only thing i really understood was "Still fun, though." ....

Reading it again I'm picking up key words.... is a "check pass" to see if it'll hold up from the start?

17. nitro
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 01:29 AM by 90-percent
Check out pass - just test runs in increments up to a full 1/4 mile pass. The first attempt at 330 feet told a story - cylinder 2 and 5 lost fire - which means too much fuel for the spark plugs to ignite. The balance there is very knife edge. Too lean hurts everything in the combustion chamber and too rich means no combustion - which means a slow race car and worse. there's going to be I guess 2 to 5 more partial runs before the full quarter mile is attempted. You have to pull the motor apart each time to read whats going on in the motor - bearings, cylinder walls, piston rings, valves piston face, and other parts tell the story of what was going on in the motor. It looked great apart - but that had to be done to know in the future the first pass the motor didn't start to hurt itself. The car owner has run an alcohol (methanol) combination for a few years. he wants to run nitro - paradigm shift in timing compression ratio and especially fuel delivery. You really have to know what you're doing to set it up to run well without blowing up. The car owner is just a working guy going after his dream. It's real high end hobby racing - not much money, just love.

I wrote it in racing jargon just for the hell of it. Like a political type board would appreciate that? I have met a guy on DU that knows the publicist for the Worsham family NHRA fuel Funny car. The publicist is now working for Tim Wilkerson's Fuel F/C, as the Worsham team lost their sponsor and disbanded. Del Worsham now drives the Al Anabi Fuel F/C, which is owned by a rich Saudi or Middle Eastern Prince.

Now he's one of my favorite political figures. Smart, informed, direct, well-spoken, ethical--seems like a great guy. Hope his career in politics is a long and productive one.
