Cenk discusses http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8632338">who was really behind Glenn Beck's witch hunt against van Jones and why they did it.

Whether he resigned or was fired isn't the point of me posting this piece because at this stage it's just speculation.

What isn't speculation, however, is who was behind it, why they did it and who/what's their next target.

always fearful and Negative

Whas wrong with these GOP...??

Not Happy unless getting Their Way.....

Why are they so Hateful??

Why do they teach Hate to their kids?

Why so Divisive?

Why the fear of being Cohesive?

Look at what they did to their own Party?

Their Negativity caused their slide from dominance.

2. They are really out to target green policy are big oil. That's the main thing here it's horrifying..
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 05:32 AM by GivePeaceAchance
and ultimately suicidal as far as human existence goes. There's got to be push back in honor of Van Jones alone, to be fair they would of targeted anyone to meet their goals don't feel it was personal or racial, on the funders of this policy assault anyway. BUT if the fact a well qualified african american is brought down motivates people -- in regards to the injustice of their smear campaign --- to get active about green policy all the better. The basic thing is the financiers of the green policy attack, will attempt to destroy a whole planet for greed rationalizing they'll be OK in the end if they have money but they're wrong.

14. Cenk ought to be on MSNBC
Perhaps MSNBC will consider replacing Ed with TYT. I like Ed's politics and all that but I understand his show is floundering. Some are grumbling that Ed is just TOO hectoring (I agree). Conversely, the success of Rachel has often been attributed to her reasonable tone and her elevating of the debate (she even manages to make some Republicans look mildly democratic from time to time by dragging them at least part of the way up towards her level!) TYT (and Cenk in particular) would fit wonderfully with this style on MSNBC. Attracting the younger demographic that Rachel attracts and featuring informed commentary, I think he would be an early evening hit.

18. Have you seen Cenk's rants? Yes, he can be very calm but he's also often fiery, to put it lightly.
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 12:21 PM by ihavenobias
Obviously I'd love to see him on TV (assuming he still does the radio show), but I can't say it's because he's calm. But yes, he would attract a younger demographic, and as a bonus he would add some diversity being Turkish-American.

20. Yes, that is correct...
...Cenk can indeed rant it up (and I really should have referred to this in my comment). However, Cenk's rants are (for the most part) tinted with a sense of the absurd along with a large dose of humour. Even when he reaches the apoplectic heights of ire that he sometimes does scale, you always feel (well, I do) that he could stop at any second and scold himself for being so angry/ranty.

However, as much as I like Ed, I couldn't say the same of him. He seems to take his anger too seriously, as though that were a political position in itself. I may be wrong on this as I can't really watch him for too long before feeling like I have had enough. I think though that the level of "rage" that say Keith and Cenk display seems about right. Not that I am suggesting they should measure it! I am just saying what works for me, is all:)

21. Ed.
Ed doesn't really appeal to me personally BUT I'm glad he's out there because he reaches left leaning Republicans and right leaning Democrats. His huntin' and fishin' talk and unpolished look and voice are important in getting that 'middle America' Red State demographic and the importance of that can't be underestimated.

And he does seem to have shifted a little more to the left since coming on MSNBC, although to be fair I don't regularly watch his show.

22. That is a good point but...
Edited on Wed Sep-09-09 02:33 PM by tempelton1
...there another part of me sees him as a further example of how farcical and infotainment-orientated the news media is becoming here in States. Full disclosure: I am from Ireland and I grew up watching BBC news where the standards of journalism tend be far more rigorous and serious in tone and depth. And, while I am genuinely torn between my burning desire to see the Republican noise machine kicked in the ass, I am also wary of the bigger picture in which all of the media is in danger of descending into a ratings-orientated grasp for the most outrageous and most confrontational real estate (which is the ripple effect of talk radio, I believe - which is why so many of these new media people hail from this world).

I personally don't like the bits of Keith's show where he mugs and makes the dumb voices. First, it's not funny. Secondly, there is no reason to do it (other than to pander to some ridiculous notion that people can't handle serious news being seriously delivered). Thirdly, it further adds to the media mix in which real in-depth current affairs are being trivialised and downgraded to the status of mere confrontation and lame attempts at satire.

Again, don't get me wrong - I do like the politics on display (even if they are a bit centrist for my old school leftwing socialist tastes). And actually I think Keith is quite good at political depth when he quits clowning. Ditto with Rachel (who I really do like). But I do worry about the cumulative longterms effect of all this infomtainment approach to the news here. Similarly, I do miss the serious-as-cancer approach to the news that, for example, you will find on the unbelievably riveting BBC2 Newsnight or Channel4 News in the UK. In those two shows it would not be unusual for there to be a 20 minute discussion on the most specific and non-dumbed down political subjects imaginable. I don't need the Worst Person in the World schtick and all the rest of it (even if I do like to see the likes of Glenn crazyhorse Beck being villified). I just need the discussion, analysis and the facts.

"Just the facts Jack"

6. Point of departure
Right-Wing Groups Got Van Jones Fired/Made Him Resign
If this was still the Bush administration somehow I might easily believe that.
I don't know why he resigned.
Blaming the minority Republicans is ridiculous.

19. What I meant to say...
(but it's too late to edit and I want to make myself clear) is that - it's not only about "Blaming the minority Republicans". Watch the video, go to the link I added to the OP and the Daily Kos one I added later and LEARN something about your corporate controlled party and it's nihilistic propaganda machine that wants to sell us and our planet to the highest bidder!

9. Obama better LEARN and LEARN QUICKLY...but maybe he DOESN'T want to...
This is just like Hitler telegraphing EXACTLY what he was going to do with "Mein Kampf" - and I wonder if Obama is smart enough to SEE and KNOW this!!! I doubt it, and from what we've seen so far, we KNOW he's not capable to SUCCESSFULLY fight this crap.

It's perfectly OK for all the "FUCK YOUS" from Dick Cheney, and all the COUNTLESS OUTRAGES from the bush* Regime, but one by one, anybody with an INKLING of progressive/liberal THOUGHT or SPEECH will be GONE - INSTANTLY - from the complaints of the repuke MINORITY!!!

Folks - we are still in BIZARRO WORLD!!!

15. No more human sacrifices to
the RWingnuts!

We need to stand with our guys, support them and stop taking the defense position
all the time.

It's time to go on the offense.

If Glenn Beck has a problem with someone,
he/she must be doing his/her job well!

To Bloody Hell with the RW Bully Pulpit!!
