Note: After you watch the above video make sure you also watch this:
.

Summary: Cenk starts off by summarizing the lead up to the Van Jones 'resignation' (which you've probably heard/read about a million times) and eventually (skip to 3:38 in) explains why the timing was so disastrous. And yes, Cenk gives a wink and a nod to the idea that was an honest 'resignation'.

2. AS AN AMERICAN
I believe that Van Jones did the right thing by signing a petition to further investigate the events of 9-11. Cenk disappoints me when he said that it was a terrible thing for Van jones to do this. Since when is wanting the truth (which we don't have), a bad thing?

7. Politics is about not doing anything which can be used against you.
And not doing anything which looks like it can be used against you.

In Jones' case, his claim that he was a communist 15 years ago or whatever, it a straight ticket out of the White House. You can disagree with that, but it is the way it is. If I had actually belonged to the Communist Party or Socialist Party, I would not expect to get elected to dog catcher or be appointed to it either. Those are simply two words which do not fly in most of the US, ever.

10. Right, but like Cenk said, the *timing* couldn't have been worse.

The timing is also a political calculation, and in this case that (should have) trumped the Communist/9/11/'R's as A-holes' blowback. Now it's Open Season on admin appointments with a group of energized right-wing hunters.

8. Fair enough but can you acknowledge it doesn't play well politically?
Set aside if you agree with it or not, of course the MSM was going to pounce on it.

Would Republicans be asking for his head too for doing something similar?

NO!

Signing a petition to ask for us to look more closely what happened in 9/11 was the AMERICAN thing to do, not the "wrong" thing to do Now people can choose not to sign it too. That's their option. But not allowing people in the government that want to demand their accountability is in my book FASCIST!

Did they say that about people who lined up and demanded that FDR investigate what happened with our intelligence gathering prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor? Now FDR responded by aggressively investigating it then, as Bush SHOULD have done with 9/11 instead of continuing trying to block any serious investigation that he has been doing since 9/11.

Next thing you know Beck will have another crazy chalkboard chart trying to tie another "Jones" to Van Jones. He'll try to say that Alex Jones is a "commie" too and is related to Van Jones and that's why both of them are "crazy" about 9/11 too.

...is a thorough investigation by the White House into who was behind the witch hunt against Van Jones and what were their motivations.
