A new, interesting British documentary based on Naomi Klein's book.

I think it's a good film, but it seems that Klein wasn't fully on-board for the end-product. Read a bit about that here;

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/aug/28/naomi-klein-winterbottom-shock-doctrine

Klein was not present for the film's premiere at the Berlin film festival and makes no mention of it on her website.

She told the Independent that serious differences in opinion had emerged between her, Winterbottom, and the film's co-director, Mat Whitecross.

"I can confirm that the original idea was for me to write and narrate the film," she told the newspaper. "For that to have worked out, however, there would have needed to be complete agreement between the directors and myself about the content, tone and structure of the film."

She added: "As often happens, we had different ideas about how to tell this story and build the argument. This is Michael's adaptation of my book, and I didn't want there to be any confusion about that. I wish the film success."

Oh, well. It's still worth checking out.

All 8 parts here;

1. Thanks for the heads up on this movie--just watched the first 2 parts
but have to stop for the night; it's just too sickening to be once again reminded of the incredible amount of the blood of innocents that this country has shed in my, your,and all of our names, and how pathetically few people to this day neither know nor care ( same thing happened when I read the book). I'll watch another couple of segments tomorrow. Whatever disagreements Naomi Klein has about how this movie was ultimately put together,which I certainly respect; after all, it's her book, it's still important for this subject to be back in the public eye as much as possible. Meanwhile, I can't stop thinking of two songs: The Clash's Washington Bullets (" please remember Victor Jara, in the Santiago stadium") and Bruce Cockburn's If I Had a Rocket Launcher (" I don't believe in generals, or this stinking torture state"). Good on both of those artists; anything , and any means to get at least a few people to open their eyes...Again , thank you for this post and letting us on DU know of its availability , for the time being anyway, on youtube, and hopefully wider distribution soon.

3. Must See
I've watched the first of 8 segments and will watch later. Klein's book The Shock Doctrine made me furious and made me cry. It was the most difficult book I've ever read. I had nightmares from reading it. I would have to put it down and after calming down, would run back to see what happened next. It changed my perception of capitalism forever.

Reality bites. Truth Hurts. History is shocking from this perspective. Must see TV for all Americans.

5. A pity about the disagreement. Still, I bookmarked this
the shock doctrine is on my top shelf, and will be there for quite some time.

I know, nothing new for many, but it is when you're historically impaired like I am (used to be).

Thanks for posting
regards

8. just finished all 8 parts
I read the book last spring...and it was very upsetting for me. I was politically dead back then when all of these things were happening. The video put the book to life.
I hope Naomi Klein truly supports it...or at least, creates a film to counter these disagreements of the film.

I just returned from living in Europe with a UK satellite connection and More 4 (the station that broadcast this) was one of my favorites. They showed Jon Stewart every night.

Recommended!
