Jon Stewart's monologue was heartbreaking and watching it again brought back a lot of memories.

For some light relief & nostalgia, the full episode can be seen here, with the hilarious "Doty for President" skit: http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/43270/The_Daily_Show_9_11.html

ETA: It took a while to find it and upload it and like most Daily Show vids on YouTube it might not last very long. The SpikedHumor version has been up for what looks like 3 or so years so it'll still be watchable even if the YT version gets pulled.

8. Gawd, that was such a surreal time. I still can't believe it.
I remember watching this. Hard to believe it was eight years ago. I had a four-year-old and a one-year-old ... What a different time of life. What a different time.

10. First time of real reflection since then.
My students asked if we were going to review the calamity of this anniversary. I went on with my lessons. I feel the event has been divisive.

Stewart reminded me of the feelings I had back then. I thought there would be overeactions, but sense would prevail. We would understand why the attacks took place. We would unite under the rule of law.

I should have known that the attacked would rise up in anger rather than justice.

Crisis provides opportunity.

Truth always suffers.

I suspect the most enormous divide we face is not financial or social class, but the way we see the truth. I'm old and jaded. I've lost amazement on how the view of facts has been so disparite.

I teach Socrates and reflection to my advanced Freshmen.

I refuse to be on a fool's errand and was inspired to comment after seeing this clip.
Thanks.

14. You lie?
What the fuck is that supposed to mean?

Who's lying and where is the fucking lie?

On that day I got a phone call from my wife saying turn on the TV now, which I did. I didn't see any lie. I saw a fucking nightmare come true.

I would not have had one iota of the composure that Jon Stewart had that day.

Enlighten us about the "lie" or forever hold your fucking peace.

12. Too bad people in the White House didn't hear the comment "we've already won" . . .
History might have been entirely different.

16. WOW
If he and we only knew then what we know now about that day, and what we have learned of our misleardership of that time largely because what that show did become since that day. Thank you for your courage and your heart Jon Stewart.
