James O’Keefe and Fox News Promote Fake ACORN Murder Confession

In perhaps the biggest bombshell of James O’Keefe’s ongoing ACORN expose’ to date, Glenn Beck aired a tape of an ACORN worker confessing to O’Keefe’s hidden camera that she had shot and killed her husband. The tape is followed by Beck imploring his viewers to get up off of their couches, call their local newspapers, and demand that they run this story.

Be careful what you wish for, Glenn.

See, whether they got a phone call or not, Duane Gang and John Asbury of the Press-Enterprise did just that, except they did something that O’Keefe, Fox News, and Beck did not do. They got the facts. Here’s my very favorite part of their story:

Police said they have been in contact with (the woman in the tape) Kaelke’s former husbands and the homicide claims do not appear accurate.

Unless they contacted one or both of them by seance, that appears to be an understatement. Kaelke told the reporters that she made the story up, saying “”They were clearly playing with me…I decided to shock them as much as they were shocking me.”

An ACORN representative said that O’Keefe’s tapes were selectively edited, a claim echoed by O’Keefe’s other subjects.

This is exactly what I tried to explain on the Ed Morrissey Show yesterday, that the type of journalism that O’Keefe is engaging in lacks any checks or balances on his desire to reach a pre-ordained conclusion. Luckily, the charade was short-lived, in this case.

He is organising nutcases of all kinds of different stripes. They are all angry about something they cannot articulate (black guy in the White House being one).

They are the same as the people supporting all of the ultra rightwing xenophobic goverment tax hating parties that have emerged in Europe. Their yearly conventions here in Denmark were always great entertainment until the more sinister speculative section of the leaders decided create a new party to weed the obvious crazies out from their ranks to clean up their public image(knowing full well that they would get their votes anyway).

Difference is that your two party system prevents them from organising under such a flag and still count in the voting process - so the Republican party has to cater to them to get them out to vote for them.

And it seems that the Republican party is slowly being whittled down to just them.

The percentages are strikingly similar, btw. Approx 15-20% are by nature just that dumb.

I got pretty pissed watching The Daily Show last night. Stuart treated this as if it was a real story. He went all nuts over why "real" journalists didn't break the story. Well, it's because "real" journalists, at least some of them, know the law.

I wish this whole damn thing would go away, but I know with Becky on it it'll hang around for months. I'm pretty satisfied that, while there might be a few idiots in ACORN offices around the country, there are many more of them working at FN. I think it stands for "Fucking Nimrods".

I happen to think this is funny, even though some claim to not see the humor in it.

They aren't fake in the sense that everyone involved was an actor. The ACORN employees were real. The question is how sincere they were in their responses.

They had to know this was going on and Fox News is playing into their trap. Why else has the other networks taken a step back from reporting this? You seem to think that Beck's audience cares about the truth. Or that our senate cares about the truth. Perception is 90% of the game. To date, ACORN has been shown in a very bad light and is losing the PR war. Even I am appalled at supporting the prostitution of 13 year olds. The only appropriate response to that by ACORN staffers should have "WTF, are you out of your mind!! I'm calling the police!!!!!!". Had they done so, we wouldn't have this PR nightmare.

You do know that as a result of these videos, widely promoted by Glen Beck, that the senate voted by an overwhelming majority to defund ACORN. This is no laughing matter. Let's get serious. I have posted this elsewhere and I'm reposting it again here because it's important, DO NOT DISCOUNT GLEN BECK!

No matter how many of us hate Beck, it would be a mistake to discount him. It is his influence that is causing major trouble for ACORN and thus for president Obama. He is getting more and more exposure and there will undoubtedly be attempts to link president Obama with ACORN and thus portray the idea that president Obama supports child prostitution and a corrupt organization. With the recent overwhelming senate vote against ACORN and the Census Bureau's decision to fire ACORN, Beck has already scored a victory. By the way, regardless of how scummy and possibly illegal it was for those two people to pose as a pimp and prostitute, I do not agree at all with ACORN staff supporting use of 13 year old girls in a prostitution ring. Very few Americans are going to support that nonsense. We shouldn't either. If you do, you certainly don't have my support. That's not what we're about and we never should be. It is also ironic that ACORN supports certain illegal actions such as breaking into houses in the name of justice. Few would object to that sort of illegality when it corrects and injustice. But prostituting 13 year olds goes way over the line, is terribly illegal and is disgusting and immoral on anyone's scale of justice. 13 year olds should be educated and sheltered from harm such as this.

Getting back to Beck. According to the few reports I have seen, his influence caused thousands of Americans to descend on Washington this past weekend. Beck claims 1.7 million. They shouldn't be discounted either. I listen to Beck and Rush Limburger, etc. so that I know what's going on. I do admit that they are funny sometimes, but that's not why I watch. If you do not know your enemy and respect his strengths, you will lose. Every good coach, every good general studies the enemy and learns his strength and weaknesses. Do you remember the movie Patton where after winning a battle Patton yells "Rommel, I read your book!" That was knowing your enemy and using the knowledge to defeat him. Simply crying that Beck is a wacko is useless and very unintelligent. Read his books like Patton read Rommel's. Watch his show. Learn his strengths and weaknesses (for one he is a cry baby, too emotional). And then intelligently use this knowledge.

You weren't there and you haven't seen the entire tapes, so you can't really say what the appropriate response was. It was obvious to at least one person that they were lousy actors and that the whole thing was a big joke, and her response was to play along with them and try to top them. Maybe others reacted in a similar way.

13 is a number BecKKK made up. The ages that were mentioned in the 1st video was 15 and the nuber of girls was 13. BecKKK turned it into 13 even though his very own subtitles say they were talking about 13 girls, not 13 year old girls. Still under age and still minors but if he can't even get his own propaganda right on such a simple thing, the whole story must be riddled with holes. For example, the "prostitute" says they are just going to lay low for a year while they get on their feet. If they said the girls were 15 and they were going to "lay low" for a year, that means they would have been 16 when they weren't "laying low", whatever that means. When watching the 1st video it's clear there were cuts and the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

I can't watch an 8 minute video of Blecch without getting that vomity taste in my mouth, but what I did see of the woman claiming she shot her hubby was a claim that is was in self defense because he was abusive. Why would Blecch be upset over somebody that killed someone in self defense being hired?
