Brief synopsis of the 1st 5 minutes:
Barney Frank talks about how Newt Gingrich turned the Republicans into the extremely right wing party we are seeing now. Then Mike Rogers comes in and tries to whitewash (pun intended) the extremism we're seeing by calling these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRkmK_5LHrE">racist/http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html">sociopathic/http://www.thefreedictionary.com/misinformed">disinformed protesters "average blue collar workers, just concerned about the way this country is going". "Government run health care". "Unions are the thugs". "etc etc etc". "the usual wingnut deflective talking points". "blah blah blah".

From 5 minutes:
Then David Gergen, after being asked by Anderson Cooper if this is the same sort of thing we saw against other presidents, comes in with "It's worse than we've seen for a long time." He goes on to say that "some of the expressions we are seeing, some of the signs, some of the pictures of Obama and that sort of thing probably have increased the threat levels that the Secret Service is dealing with." He goes on to say that there's a room in the newly restored Lincoln museum in Illinois that has horrible/animalistic cartoons from that period that portray Lincoln as an ape and a baboon that represent a lot of what was going on at the time. He concludes with the ominous statement, "It's important to remember what happened to Lincoln in April of 1865".

From 6:16:
Barney Frank talks about his encounter with the "dining room table" and accuses the GOP of not reigning in the monster they have created.

2. The RW will not reign in the monster...
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 10:56 PM by Ozymanithrax
They will use it to instill fear in Americans so that Americans will put them back in power. Remember, under Bush we were told that only Conservatives can protect us. The monster is the Republican Parties strategy to get Americans to re-elect the tyrants. Republicans are not in disarray. This is their method to get back in power.

14. They think they can ride it back into power & probably use it to stay there.
They may be able to do just that, and America would then have no semblance of freedom.

But History shows that it's more likely that the monster will consume them. Just ask Maximilien Robespierre.

17. Just remember this part of what Goering said...
...the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

This is what they are doing on the right, convincing people that they are under attack so they will follow along.

3. I'm pro-gun but this hatred I'm seeing is bothering the hell out of me...
For all the pro-gun people who read this message including the lurkers from FreeRepublic, be aware that an attempt on Obama's life by some radical right wing character will lead to draconian gun laws from Hell. It would definitely cause riots in the streets and might lead to a race war.

Civil discussion is fine and appropriate for issues as complex as Obama is purposing. Hate filled rhetoric is not. I remember a time when the Democrats and the Republicans would sit down and hammer out legislation that would move this country forward. They often disagreed on the best way to solve a problem and had heated discussions, but they didn't HATE each other. Often they were good friends.

And if the talk radio pundits are reading this post, unlikely as it is, if Obama is attacked by some nut you provoked, the media regulations you fear will probably put you out of your lucrative job. Why not use your powerful voice to purpose good solutions to our problems rather than foster dangerous feelings.

I know, this has been going on longer than Obama has been in office. But if we don't decide to curb it soon, al-Qaeda will be able to set back and watch as we destroy our own country.

8. Good - but not good enough.
IF some repuke right wing asshole tried an attempt on Obama, or heaven forbid - succeeded, then you can count ME as one of those WHO WILL MAKE SURE OF SANE (NOT DRACONIAN) GUN CONTROL LAWS!!! COUNT ON IT.

and, if Obama is attacked by some repuke idiot who was provoked by limpballs, hanity, beck and the other assholes, then you can also count ME as one who WILL see to it that these idiots are finally expelled from ALL media, ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

My partner tells me that at the Las Vegas main Post Office, one of his asshole REPUKE supervisors has stated with glee that she looks forward to the comming CIVIL WAR and that they intend to WIN! WE will make sure that THAT doesn't ever happen, if these REPUKE ASSHOLED ever come to that!!!

13. Well if there is a race war who's side will you be on?
I am white but I would be on the side of the black and people of color.
And that is important for the right wing to know because they think sense black people are in the minority that they can easily win any race war because they are the majority and have guns.
And frankly if it were to come to it I would hope that there are more white faces in the mob that black...it is white people that is responsible for racism and it should rightfully be white people that put a stop to it.

18. I would not fight in a race war unless attacked...
if attacked I would defend myself and my family.

I have friends that are black and friends that are white. I would attempt to mediate between the two groups, but the hatred of a few on both sides is such that if a race war does break out it will be hard to stop. I really have no white or black friends who fit into the radical hate filled category.

As to who is oppressed, we all are oppressed by the color green. The big corporations and many rich and influential people are the modern slave masters.

7. You see this as Gergen making a veiled threat?
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 11:55 PM by Turborama
I'm not sure where you were going with that because, as you imply, the people (monsters) who are making the (thinly) veiled threats are Faux News and their viewers.

Obviously he does think some people need reminding, we might not but there are uneducated people out there who http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x372639">clearly do.

20. No
and if I reread my post correctly, there was a question mark in place...I was asking if anyone felt what he said was a veiled threat, ...because of the way it struck me...I've read a lot of frightening crap about such things on the web over the last few months.....(hell, I read an email that a DUer had received, and posted right here on this site, that plain out said they intended to assassinate him and when they did, to celebrate in private and mourn in public)...Personally, I will never forget 1963, (I wasn't around for Lincoln's assassination, but it must have been devastating for those at that time also)..and I can't believe anyone who does, could entertain thoughts of causing our country such pain again, for any reason..

AS for FAUX...I never mentioned it, or those who watch it...I just stated that there are those who dish out daily doses of speech that incite those who listen..RACISM is the monster I was talking about...but I didn't call or imply that ANYONE....ANY PERSON/s....is/are a monster...I never intend to imply anything...

See how it is, when something someone writes, hits you a little off kilter???....your answer to my post is the perfect example of misunderstanding what someone else said...the exact reason I posed the question I did, originally....wb

10. Have people forgotten that Code Pink, etc. became very aggressive
after Bush ordered demonstrators to be held in cages and had people arrested at meetings for wearing tee-shirts his organizers did not like. Bush seriously tried to oppress peaceful demonstrations and place great distances between himself and peaceful demonstrations. In those situations, it is understandable that the demonstrators were frustrated and became loud.

But these tea-baggers are not well prepared for demonstrating. Code Pink is rude and interrupts things but the members of Code Pink know exactly how far they can go before they will get arrested. They know they will get arrested. They deal with the police in a way that lets the police know they are really endangered in any way. In a sort of odd way, the demonstrators on the left for the most part show respect for the police. They are informed about the limits on free speech. Most important the demonstrators on the left are schooled in the philosophy on non-violent protest.

The demonstrators on the right have a history of murdering people, of uncontrolled violence. They are not students or schooled in the non-violent philosophy of Ghandi or Martin Luther King. They do not expect to be arrested. They do not understand that the First Amendment has its limits. That is what is frightening about these right-wing demonstrators. They are not trained to use non-violent demonstration for political purposes.

15. I totally disagree with Frank that the Democrats have been
scared to disagree with their most radical elements. Stomping on "hippies" is what elected Democrats do best. The right embraces their lunatics, the left can't denounce them fast enough. There is no downside to being against peace, helping the poor, civil rights, etc., in the United States. In that way, this is asymmetrical.

the cash for clunkers are the same group. Is femma running the cash for clunkers? Is Mike Rodgers destorting information to confuse people? Telling the public that dick army's freedom workers, of lydon larouch folks are ordinary people?
