1. "Now is the time when we should bring the best ideas of both parties together"
What, is there a third party, one with ideas, that I've never seen?

Joking aside... very good.

4. Mandatory insurance is not a good idea. There are many people who will not be covered by Obama's
plan, yet who can't afford to buy coverage. Hell if they could afford it they would already have it!

I think mandatory insurance is a big wet kiss to the health insurance industry.

Furthermore, to make a public option effective anyone should be able to buy into it whether you have a plan offered to you by an employer or not. There are plenty of worthless health insurance plans offered by employers, Walmart is a good case in point.

Exchanges and co ops do not work. You read more about that here.

6. Isn't that just the problem? It is there but conveniently not discussed well
Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 04:31 AM by Go2Peace
The "compromises" are full hidden traps. I am still waiting for evidence and I could be surprised when something truly decent comes out of Washington on this, but so far I have not seen it.
(I rec'd though, we need all the discussion on this we can have. I still have hope that congress and the President will end up producing something different than what is currently on the table).

10. What's the part about malpractice reform?
Given that it's a Bush admin idea, I'm guessing it has something to do with protecting doctors and (more importantly) hospitals from liability if patients suffer or die as a result of their mistakes or neglect. That might lower their operating costs, but there's no guarantee that they'd pass the savings on to their patients. Not to mention there'd be less of a reason for them to do right by the people who depend on them, not that any decent human being would need a reason.

Mind you, if Team Obama manage to implement all their other reforms, especially the public option, then there will be less pressure on hospitals to cut their nursing budgets and use ineffective procedures. That would decrease the amount of actual malpractice taking place, and then we can talk about legal reforms.
