1. It must be a strong public option open to everyone.... |
|
.....or the public option will be killed off by the large health insurance corporations before it even has a chance to get started.
Without a strong, Medicare-style public option open to ALL Americans, not just those without insurance, then the bills being proposed are simply
enormous handouts to the insurance companies.
Without meaningful regulation on premiums charged -- what good is mandating pre-existing conditions be covered if the person cannot afford the premiums or deductibles??
Where are the regulations to stop denial of claims??
What if the so called "subsidies" to help people buy mandated private insurance get lowered or even dropped but you still by law have to buy insurance??
Sorry to say, without these issues being addressed in a way that benefits the people instead of the corporations, it would be better to pass NO LEGISLATION and try again later.

2. Yep, NO LEGISLATION at all would be better if no public option and the other |
|
qualifiers you rightly mention.
However, that said, I am optimistic. It may be wishful thinking but I believe that things are going our way...

3. I have some hope lately |
|
Now that the dust from the town hall circuses has died down, support for reform and for the public option is back up over 60% in all the polling I've seen. Even polling of Republicans shows a majority in favor of PO. I think the righties, as I've read elsewhere, overplayed their hand. They delayed health care reform to stir up a lot of crap in the August recess. Now that the town halls are over and some reps are actually getting a little face time without all the screaming people are discerning the facts. It has also given some progressive groups time to target some blue dogs and republicans in key markets. We may come out better than if we had gotten a bill passed before the recess.

6. Of course Dean is right! The only thing holding us back |
|
from doing the right thing is corporate special interest. If we are going to do this, let's do it right.

|
way back when he was the just starting out as that out of nowhere presidential grassroots candidate, destroying small campaign donation records, all from real people, he's a man of the people. I've loved him through the Dean scream too....Yee Haw! He never should've dropped out.
