VietNam Veterans against the war at the Repub National Convention in 1968

3. I believe he was also a member of the John Birch Society
back in the 60s...during which time the JBS was uber conservative and quite notoriously known for its racist, misogynistic and anti-Semitic policies. Yup, that John Wayne was an American, through and through.

6. I remember reading about him being chased off a stage during the Korean War
He came over on a USO visit and the Marines there literally chased him away. Several of them said that it was the portrayal of war as a glorious enterprise in his films that encouraged them to sign up -- and then they found out what it really was in Korea.
