Way back in the day I had a relative idea of what a conservative was, or at least what they claimed to be. Today when a person says the word conservative, I have no idea what they are talking about, although the word monster often comes to mind.

3. And that is the problem.

Right wing radio talk show hosts co-opted both the word conservative and liberal. They redefined these words for America. Traditionally conservatives were nothing like the strict extreme right wing ideology we see today.

Liberals are nothing like the caricature created by Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh is a reasonably intelligent man. He know that our founding fathers were 'liberals'. He also knows full well that Hitler's Germany was in no way "socialist'. But he will continue to inject confusion surrounding these terms to achieve his ends.

5. Socialist vs. "National Socialist"

Sure, Hitler's Germany was "socialist", they knew the people in general liked socialist things like Bismarck's health care, so they took the word and rebranded it with their National Socialist logo. The same thing goes on today, the "Clean Skies" act pollutes the air, the "No Child Left Behind" act retards the progress of children in school, etc. If there is anything right-wingers are good at, it's propaganda. They listen to pollsters like Luntz and figure out what words to praise and what words to demonize. They load up the catapult and fling their bullshit all over the place and then ask people "don't you like the smell of country air!"
