1. Which Europeans?
The cultural elites who defend and excuse Polanski, or the majority who, as recent polling shows, think Polanski should be brought to justice? I wouldn't imagine that Europeans are any more tolerant of child rape than any other people so I don't get that stereotype. I heard Hartmann's argument the other day and was disappointed in him.

6. I think the poster named the title wrong.
TH was just stating what a lawyer stated in a German op-ed. Basically looking at the crime in relation to how we convict the crime and that our justice system is under question. This has nothing to do with the crime itself.

2. Anyone else think it's cool that a poster has the same name as the guy he's posting about? What are
the odds of that?

3. Hartman is essentially talking about a problem that is solvable.
If you can't get a statute of limitations, then you simply must prosecute the most egregious cases. We DO have prosecutorial discretion in this country. OK, do away with it. Just make it so that a crime must be prosecuted within a certain amount of time, if what Hartmann is arguing is that it is unfair to have some crimes prosecuted and others not.

4. Wow. I had to bookmark this. Interesting point brought up by the lawyer Hartmann read.
Wow. 30 years and now the drama? Good point, for 30 years they didn't try to extradite the man until now. Huh.

7. Arbitraty prosecution? In America? Must be kidding me.
This is so laughable. So it takes a famous film directing child rapist to be arrested before some journalists will start complaining about arbitrary prosecution in America.

Obviously these people don't live in the same America that I know. How about getting profiled for having long hair or the wrong skin color. Or selectively applying the death penalty to certain groups of people. Probably doesn't quite that often in those Hollywood neighbourhoods.

Seriously. Maybe that journalist should write a few pages about how Bush and Cheney are getting away with starting a war of aggression. That crime that we hung the leading nazis for.

Then I might spend a few seconds worrinying about his whims about Polanski being "arbitrarily prosecuted".
