This appears to be from Inside Edition, or one of those shows I don't watch. This dad really refuses to pay for college. The son starts a website to collect money for college by letting people take out ads on his site. He refuses to become a Republican.

This is a very weird story.

3. That's from Inside Edition
That father is seriously out of his mind if he takes his political views that far

4. The father's an asshole, and has brainwashed his daughter.
Wonder what else he's done to her? (That's an ugly statement, but we've seen what Republicans are really like lately, haven't we?)

5. Hmm. My father is a republican who didn't predicate
his willingness to pay for his daughters' college tuition on whether or not we agreed with his politics. The man in the video is a pig who thinks, as neocons seem to, that they can win hearts and minds using a big stick as persuasion. Vile.

6. Could be, the Dad's just very smart. . .
and he and his son have figured out a way in these highly-charged, highly-partisan times, to get other people to pay for the son's education.

That website has sure gotten a lot of publicity in the months since he first put it up (I first heard this story last Spring), and with national exposure on Inside Edition, there's plenty of more people to pump money into the son's efforts to buck his "douchebag" Dad.

Not saying this is what's happening, but anymore if you don't consider all the angles, someone stands to take lucrative advantage of you.

7. There truly are pukes
that would rather see their kids homeless then do anything to support the "other" side; to these people being "right" is more important then the kids welfare.

8. Well it's Dallas. They hunt Dems there. Esp if they're presidents.
They shoot 'em down in the street.

Seriously, it's no coincidence that President Kennedy was murdered there.

10. We visited the memorial there.
It was so cold and the wind was blowing through there so hard. It was a sad place to visit.

12. I think that was it.
It was almost in downtown Dallas, kind of open with columns, and the wind just blew so hard through there. It was winter, and I nearly froze.

21. As a long time resident of the city..
And sitting in a classroom across the city on that day, when no one had to tell us to observe a moment of silence, because we could not think of a g-d thing to say, and watching the family mourn and the priest throw holy water and wishing with all my childhood heart that the holy water would bring him back to life .. I won't come to the defense of "Dallas". But I sure as hell don't blame the CITY for the death of an American spirit. For you to do so shows an amazing lack of maturity.

The kid on the video will get his college funds. I would pay them myself if I had the resources.
But not to forsaken YALE or HARVARD. How many Democrats are walking around on those campuses?

9. I'm glad his dad isn't paying for his college
Paying for his own education will make him a better progressive in the end. He will understand the challenges you face in life when you don't get a leg up. Good for him for sticking to his principles and for his entrepreneurial spirit. He will do well.

18. While I agree there is value in paying your own way...
and I paid for a lot of my college education myself both through work and loans, which are now paid in full, STILL...this kid is 17 years old, and Dad just NOW drops the bomb that there kid will have to pay for everything himself? That's a pretty lousy thing to lay on the kid, at essentially the last minute.

14. That truly has to be...
The sh*tiest thing I've ever heard. I refuse to help my son prepare for his future because he disagrees with me. They had the goofy spin on that, but that' is truly a crappy thing to do and the kid's dumb ass sister is as stupid as the father.

I say the kid should stay home, not got to school, spend all day eating cheetos and watching soap operas on the couch for the next 10 years, refusing to move out. When all is said and done it'll cost his dad twice what it would have to send him to college.

the Dad will try to claim all the credit ... especially if he's going to try to claim the "tough love" aspect ...

17. Remember Garrison Keillor's column about that area?
I guess I am especially sensitive to how things are there because a family member changed so drastically after moving there. It happened before Bush came on the scene, I guess, but we never noticed it until then. Luckily he is coming around some, but there must be a powerful love for Bush around those parts.

I remembered a column Keillor wrote about a Methodist church there. I have a friend who goes there, but we haven't discussed the column.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/madfloridian/377

"I got some insight last week into who supports torture when I went down to Dallas to speak at Highland Park Methodist Church. It was spooky. I walked in, was met by two burly security men with walkie-talkies, and within 10 minutes was told by three people that this was the Bushes' church and that it would be better if I didn't talk about politics. I was there on a book tour for "Homegrown Democrat," but they thought it better if I didn't mention it. So I tried to make light of it: I told the audience, "I don't need to talk politics. I have no need even to be interested in politics - I'm a citizen, I have plenty of money and my grandsons are at least 12 years away from being eligible for military service." And the audience applauded! Those were their sentiments exactly. We've got ours, and who cares?"
