1. I'd Take That As a No
but he does appear to understand that he is in deep chit as evidenced by his grimaces. And accolades to anyone that able to withstand the entire press conference cause I sure couldn't stand to listen to him beyond his reply to Thomas.

2. I couldn't watch the whole thing.....
just the same old lies rehashed over again and again. Bush's claim that he went to the United Nations in good faith and that it was Saddam that "decided" the war was necessary is complete and utter bullshit. YOU KICKED THE UN INSPECTORS OUT OF IRAQ, ASSHOLE! :grr: You couldn't wait to start your military campaign of "shock and awe". The UN inspectors weren't finding those heaps of "WMDs" that you ASSURED us were there so you kicked them out so you could start your war of imperialism for oil as soon as possible.

I can't stand watching a moment of his stupid monkey face or listening to his phony Texas drawl anymore. As far as I'm concerned we HAVE NO President at the moment: just a dictatorial jester with a ego the size of his adopted state. A lawless buffoon who thinks he has carte blanch to shred The Constitution in his pursuit total executive power. Screw him! :grr:

15. He kept Helen from a follow-up that could have included your
comment on George pulling the inspectors out before they finished. George Couldn't Wait to drop those bombs. The media, and our current candidates, skips over that CRITICAL issue. Had they stayed and proved Saddam had no stockpiles of WMD there should have been no war, according to the hype the entire administration was dumping on our Country.

When McKay made an interim report that they were not finding WMD's and could the govt. and intel people give a better idea of where to look as it wasn't helpful that Rummy had said they were in Baghdad and N, S, E and West of there. It was shortly after that hearing that george pulled the inspectors out and it was bombs away from there on.

3. Why is this man smirking ?
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 04:31 AM by Spinzonner
What has he accomplished - no, what has he avoided turning into a disaster - in his entire misbegotten administration, if not his whole sorry life.

4. You have to see it through his eyes...
... the way he sees it the last 6 years have seen the best damn fiscal years of his friends/contributors. Defense, oil, healthcare, etc. all have experienced record profits. As far as he is concerned he is truly baffled why someone would have anything against him, as far as his objectives/interests are concerned he is being remarkably successful. Plus no one calls him on his BS, so why wouldn't he be smirking...

He has killed the man who tried to kill his daddy, he has one-upped his old man with a second term, he has force fed EVERY single legislation he has pushed for, and he has ignored any oversight from the democratic house, his buddies are reaping billions. Again, why wouldn't he be smirking? He is, as far as he is concerned, a resounding success.

7. I noticed that!
"Republics and Democrats"!

But my favorite quote was when he said we needed to spread freedom to Iraq because freedom isn't just for, um, er, Methodists.

12. Yes he did.
This has always been sold to the American People as a long and difficult war.

I see your point though..."beginning"...does not bode well, however, it ties in nicely to a long term plan to secure oil in the region and force continued, long-term, occupation of the Middle East.

PNAC spells it all out. The goal is a permanent presence in the region and forced stability. Even if that stability comes at the cost of a few hundred thousand innocents.

PEACE.

And welcome to DU!

21. To Be Clear - He Means Armageddon
And whether it lasts 1000 years or seven depends on your interpretation of certain prophecies.

It's a shame that people without exposure to it, aren't sensitive to the Millenialist code words.

Like when Condi Rice said we are seeing "birth pangs of a new middle east", what she meant was:

Revelation 12:1-5

A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne.

These people see the coming of their "end times" in terms of birth pangs of increasing frequency, leading up to Armageddon and the second coming of Christ.

http://www.raptureready.com/abc/birth_pangs.html

Birth pangs, in terms of Bible Prophecy, refers to certain convulsive geopolitical, geophysical, astrophysical and world-wide socio-economic events and issues scheduled to occur in the time leading up to Jesus Christ’s Second Advent (second coming). These are likened to the contractions experienced by a woman about to give birth, with those episodes increasing with frequency and intensity.

It is unfortunate that Bush and other politicians can make these kinds of references, which are directly understood by the intended target audience, but which sail right over the heads of those who aren't familiar with the language of the "rapture ready" folks. Because make no mistake, these people want war, they want more war, and they get giddy with excitement in anticipation of their being shown to be smugly right about the damnation of everyone else when their saviour returns to throw you and anyone else who is trying to get along on this planet, into a lake of fire.

This breed of thought is the bastard child of the seduction of a peculiar American strain of Protestantism by the militaristic right wing plutocracy.

11. Helen Rocks!!! Of Note:
Did anyone else catch Helen's silent shout when shrub spewed the following line?

"It is a war in which an enemy will kill innocent men, women and children to achieve a political objective"

Helen Thomas has to clear her throat.

Ahhh uhhh...

It spoke volumes...

I could hear her shouting..."We are that enemy, you f'ing Fool!" Of course, it was just my own silly projection...

Love that woman.

Peace.

13. I find myself saying to every single word that comes out of his mouth,
"BULLSHIT!!!!!". My God, I cannot stand to listen to that "man". His smug, smarmy, self-satisfied, condescending attitude is like nails on a chalkboard to me. AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!! He is such a fraud.

It is so painful to me to watch this miserable excuse for a human being play-acting and pretending to be the President of the United States. I just can't do it. I always try to watch, but ultimately after a minute or two I end up having to turn it off. It's been this way for me since before he was even "elected". :hurts:

Like they're buddies. Like he's got a handle on his people...
I think he referred to him as general once?
Imagine the general referring to Bush as George...

23. Bush told at least four lies in his respnse to Ms. Thomas' question
He said that he he wanted a diplomatic solution to the crisis as opposed to war.
He said Saddam "chose the course" or war.
He characterized the war as "necessary."
He characterized Iraq as a "young democracy."
