I really don't like this skit at all. It makes fun of domestic violence. UNREC if you agree.

18. What an oddly refreshing point of view
it feels like, on here, that no one cares, or even mocks when men are beaten by their wives. they're not manly enough, or some such.

did tiger have it coming... does any wife? I mean seriously people.

K & unrec as per your request. but personally I think this should goto the greatest because the fact tht we tolerate men being beaten w/o outrage is intolerable imho.

13. Its hard to argue that SNL was advocating domestic violence
They were making light of the continued revelations of Tiger's many mistresses.

Although I agree it would not be funny if the roles were reversed, they were not. Its important to recognize that we live in a terribly gendered society where women who are cheated on often do not stand up for themselves. If Tiger (the professional athlete) got hit a couple times with a gold club by his very petite wife for having him unimaginably embarrass her all over the national media, I don't think we should be going after his wife for domestic violence.

Ultimately, the reason the SNL skit was funny was because it deconstructed and reversed typical gender roles. That is often where comedians find their humor. The idea that this made people feel sick surprises me.

19. "women who are cheated on often do not stand up for themselves"
Beating someone with a golf club is NOT standing up for themselves. It is domestic violence and it is sick.

She deserves prison just as much as a husband would for beating a cheating wife. As if somehow a little embarrassment is a justification for violence.

27. Agreed
She was not "embarrassed" until after she attacked him. even then why should she be embarrassed for his cheating? she attacked him! she should be embarrassed for attacking him.

she should do some serious jail tome and complete the DV class and realize NO relationship is "healthy". (according to the class)

36. Comparing apples and oranges
I think we can agree that being cheated on with a half-dozen women across the country would be embarrassing to anyone, even before it made every major news outlet in the world...

The idea that in a fit of rage over this she scratched his face and hit him in the shoulder with the gold club seems far from what most would consider domestic violence. I can't imagine any court anywhere convicting her for this.

This is entirely different than the typical domestic violence case for one clear reason: the power dynamic within their relationship. Tiger is the rich and famous professional athlete with almost all of the power (physical and otherwise). For her to hit him is not the same as for him to hit her. The comparison trivializes the plight of battered women. Does anyone really feel bad for Tiger? Do people really think she deserves "serious jail time"?

Clearly, violence of any kind should not be condoned, but that doesn't mean we should see all violence as equal. Nor does it mean that we can't find humor when typical gender roles are reversed.

I thought the skit was funny, but would not if the situation was reversed.

Has the money, "power" or the penis/vagina in the relationship
Violence is violence period.

you are excusing her violent behavior BECAUSE she has the vagina.
really by your rationale if she were the billionaire athlete and he attacked her he should be excused? BULLSHIT.

It is this double standard that makes the domestic Violence laws such a biased joke.

I thought the skit was funny. I just wish Tiger had pressed real charges.

if I had my divorce to do over I would have cleaned out the bank account and gone out of town. instead of what happened. the day after my soon to be ex learned that the DNA test came back and I was not liable for child support. I was arrested... after her new boyfriend beat her face bloody and they told the cops I did it. that was a Thursday. by the time I got out of jail that next Monday. the accounts were drained... She admitted on the stand during my Trial that my hands were bigger then the bruises in the photos of her face and it was her boyfriend/coke dealer who did the beating.

so because of the biased DV laws. I endured
Loss of $50,000 stolen out of the bank. (she already had her $50,000 half and contrived a way to bilk me out of mine.) another $25,000 in legal fees and DV classes.

why anyone would ever want to get married? it just is not worth it.

Besides the damage to him ... this will affect her children exactly as it would if he had beaten her. There's no way they won't find out about it. If she beat him .... and with a golf club???? she's got some problems that should be legal. He was wrong, she was more wrong. Get a damn divorce.

38. One of my complaints about fellow Liberals
is how they invoke the double standard on spousal abuse.

Men generally don't get beaten. Or not as much. However they do get nagged, dominated and bullied in other ways. It can make him miserable, drive him crazy or to early grave. Common problem!

Now most married men will agree with that statement and it is very true. But a common enough response of the D/U moderators will be to censor the remark. Maybe even to go as far as issuing me a warning. Could happen.

Tiger had his reasons for seeking the company of other women. It is his business. Same as if his wife Elin had "strayed". We put so many negative labels on ordinary human behavior. Its like men are heels and women are sluts. We're screwed as it is just for being normal. Whats up with that stuff?

But I admit the story made me chuckle. Almost cut myself shaving. have to be careful.

Speaking of careful: When I was married I never got caught. Sly as a Tom cat and good with an excuse. Never even generated much suspicion.

But then I'm a Coyote. We're crafty & careful if nothing else. Good sense of smell too.

But one of the things that is kind of funny is it does point out is Tiger Woods is lying about something. I do think that is true. I don't think it is DV per se, I think his wife did his the car with the golf club.

21. Oh, please.
SNL would have been off the air years ago if they didn't do this sort of humor. Chevy Chase once did a report from a ski mountain where Christine Longet was shooting skiers as they went down the slopes. Everytime a skiier fell Chase would say, "Christine Longet just shot another one". This was after she was accused of shooting Spider Savitch, a skiier and her lover, during the week.

28. That was a great skit
I think the actual verbiage might have been "another skier accidentally shot by Claudine Longet".
I think it was supposed to be Jim McKay describing it. For those unfamiliar (assuming my memory is correct) she allegedly accidentally shot her boyfriend, the skier Spider Sabich.

22. There's nothing offensive about this skit; in no way is it making the case that abuse is okay
Had Tiger Woods been convicted of beating his wife, or vice versa, then sure, I'd be unrecommending this skit per your request--but that's not the case. The heart of this skit's comedy is the implausible stories that were initially told about the accident. Nothing whatsoever in this skit suggests physical abuse is acceptable.

If we're going to frown on all comedy that touches on unacceptable behavior, are we going to stop laughing at any film, book, movie, or skit that makes reference to adultery, theft, greed, vanity, or lying?
