They were looking for an excuse to put the mess behind them, and when one was offered they weren't about to quibble about the particulars. Unless Zelaya and his supporters, both foreign and domestic, take it to the next level this issue will likely disappear from the international stage.

Pretended the vote didn't happen, or failed to mention the circumstances of the 'election'.
The Netherlands have taken the position of the EU: they see the 'elections' as an important first step in 'resolving the political crisis'. It seems that only President Zelaya's Latin-American allies continue to stand their ground against the illegal coup-regime. For a moment after the coup, was hopeful, when all 191 UN-members were unanimous in condemning the coup; that had never happened before! My hope came too soon...
