AL JAZEERA - 9 December 2009: Barack Obama, the US president, is due to receive the Nobel Peace Prize at a ceremony in Oslo - days
after he ordered an escalation of US involvement in the war in Afghanistan.

In making Obama the third sitting US President to win the award, the Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama's co-operative approach to global issues.

But many critics say that Obama's resume is too thin to stand scrutiny with other Nobel peace laureates.

And for many Afghans, Obama's strategy of even more troops does not fit into their vision of what will
bring peace. From Kabul, Steve Chao reports.

6. War is Peace...
We need to stay longer to leave sooner....
We need to send more troops to reduce them....

I wanted to say that Orwell was off by a couple of decades, but now that I think about it... I have seen this same crap going on since Raygun too. So maybe he was spot on with his timing estimation (wrong continent though).

7. I can't blame them.
If someone was getting the prize that just sent more troops into America to bomb and shoot the crap out of us...I would be pissed too.

8. Perspective is everything.
When it comes to who deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, I'd say the opinions of the people in the sights of the Predator drones should be taken seriously.

If we just accept that awarding the prize was a political tactic, it makes sense.

If there's a Nobel Peace Prize to be handed out for work in Central Asia, then it should go to Greg Mortenson, who has been building girls' schools in the region for a decade.
