3. "They (Western leaders) are totally divorced from reality (of the Middle East)."
That's what I've long suspected.

Interesting footage.

5. I cannot disagree with Fisk.
I feel as though I've just watched Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

There is theory, and there is practice. And what we are watching is theory meeting practice. The massive military contracts and lobbyists and powerful Congressmen have mass and momentum. And they don't change easily, if at all.

There is the Oval Office, and there is the end of a gun. Fisk sees the reality of this dilemma. And he has nearly as many years in the field as Obama does on this planet.

I believe the decision to invade is a binary one. And I don't believe the Hitler reference that people make. I'm one of the few who thinks World War Two coudl have ended in a different way. One with nearly 50 million less dead human beings.

I think Obama, like Pelosi, has good intentions. I also think America, like all nations, is in trouble. for all that we've done, we cannot beat greed. The Constitution is the best we have, and it is failing us.

Since when is invasion considered war? This is the new definition of war? War is defending against imminent threat. Whites of their eyes. Predator drones never see the whites of their eyes. And neither do we, thousands of miles away. 9/11 did indeed allow our government to change that definition. And we are all the worse for it.

I say we organize a tax protestation. I say we stop them. It is our only means. We do have the power. Not by vote any longer. But by financial means.

7. OK, in defense of Obama
I've just had a long discussion about the sad state of affairs that the Bush people left this president with. It was a trap that they left him. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

This NY Times article describes the lengths Obama went to in order to arrive at his escalation decision.

I am against it. But what do I know?

11. Damed if he does, damned if he doesn't ? I don't believe
Obama will be damned by those of us who want the US to pull out of that miserable state of war in Afghanistan. I have to agree with Fisk, Obama is pursuing an impossible dream. Better to pull in the horns an extend the helping(?)hand from a distance.

16. no, damned if he DOESN'T
because those who oppose him are NOT going to vote for him or support him.

those who VOTED FOR HIM, expect him to LEAD the stupids out of the wilderness of their fantasies.

those who voted for him will not vote for him when he caters to the stupids. it's as simple as that.

15. I like President Obama and I tend to be an apologist. but Fisk is absolutely right that
politics is not about good guys and bad guys - It's about power and President Obama is not changing how power works in Washington.
