16. I dont like the guy at all but some of the replies here are out of line. |
|
What would be the reaction here if President Obama lost some teeth to a wingnut hitting him in the face with a statue?

But, honestly I can't kind any sympathy in my heart for that fascist.

I'm always afraid that will happen to one of our presidents or presidential candidates.

5. It won't sink in. There is no questioning or introspection. |

They're empty robots, if I may be so insensitive.
I've been out digging a ditch and thinking about what he must be thinking. The answer is most likely very little. Just the conservative mantra beating away like a brutal drum.

According to the Italian news the guy that hit him has been undergoing treatment as a mental patient for the past TEN YEARS.

I wish it were an academic, judicial or simple man of the people. Mental patient takes the gloss off an otherwise great moment.

10. Berlusconi = womanizer. So was Clinton? |
|
I wonder why no one punched President Bill Clinton that badly after Monica Lewinsky became a prominent news topic. I guess our Secret Service is so superb--it saved Gerald Ford's and Ronald Reagan's lives from assassination attempts (but only Reagan got shot; Ford did not)! (But they didn't save Barack Obama from the gatecrashing couple)
Because I'm not too familiar with Italian politics, are you all trying to say that Berlusconi = l'italiano Bush?

Violence only begets violence. We have to be the change we seek. Love your enemy. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. What would Ghandi do? Peace (in 18 languages).
Oh, yeah. I forgot. There's that story about sunken toxics in the Mediterranean, the most hideous enviro-crime in history, the one that cost an Italian public TV reporter her life because it reaches to the highest levels of the Italian G. Lemme hazard a guess and say there might be someone from the Calabrian coast willing to toss a stale dinner roll at the PM.
Did anyone notice how Berlusconi couldn't stand to hide his face even though he was injured? Further viewing: Gamorra (2008), from the book of the same name.

14. Berlusconi is a shithead, but attacks on heads of state are intensely destabilizing. |
|
A little stability would go a long way these days. Not to mention the fact of being hit by a plaster model of a building (which is the last report I heard) hurts and shouldn't be wished on another person.

It's bad on 2 fronts
Humanitarian -- It's just wrong to assault someone like that
Political - If you want to look at it from a purely political perspective, it tends to give the person assaulted a lot of sympathy with the public

The thought that was going through my head was gee....this guy is human - i.e., bleeds like the rest of us in contrast to appearing like some idol/rock star who is literally a fantasy. So many political leaders end up appearing like rock stars as opposed to being one of the 'people'...Obama and Tony Blair come to mind
