Here’s some video of Joe Lieberman only three months ago appearing to endorse the Medicare buy-in idea — in seeming contradiction of his decision to bail on the Senate deal.

Lieberman discussed the Medicare buy-in a meeting with the Connecticut Post in September, according to an article in the paper at the time, as TPM noted today. But the article only paraphrased Lieberman.

I asked the paper to send over the video, and it’s worth watching, because it gives you Lieberman’s actual quotes — which seem at odds with the Lieberman camp’s claim today that he has real problems with the approach:

1. NY Times:Lieberman Supported Medicare Expansion

Sen. Joe Lieberman was for a Medicare expansion before he was against it.

Democrats circulated video Monday from a Connecticut newspaper's interview in September showing Lieberman voicing support for a so-called Medicare buy-in allowing uninsured people as young as 55 to purchase coverage.

The Connecticut independent, whose vote is critical to the health care reform bill's prospects, had threatened Sunday to join Republicans in opposing health legislation permitting a buy-in.

Lieberman's spokesman Marshall Wittmann said Lieberman's comments were made before the Senate health care bill, which includes health insurance subsidies, was finalized. Wittmann said Lieberman believes the subsidies make a Medicare buy-in program redundant.

16. That would be easy ...

If that was the question, he's in office because the citizens of Connecticut elected him to a 6 year term.

I was wondering more if the question might have been why is he allowed to caucus with the Democrats or why does he have committee chairmanships. Those questions are more difficult.

17. Lieberman doesn't give a shit, he's paid well by insurance corporations, has his chairmanship, is
getting all the attention, and being wooed by both Dems & republicans and still being able to be his arrogant lying selfish vendictive self.

Lieberman is making millions of dollars from the insurance corporations in return Lieberman is making the insurance corporations billions of dollars keeping the status quo stopping any bill that would take a penny away from the insurance companies stranglehold & profits.

This is one slimy, shameless, unprincipled, uncaring lying asshole is Joe Lieberman and unfortunately he doesn't care....he's got his!

15. He has got to be the most boring man on the planet.
He's so incredibly boring it's hard to stay focused on what he's talking about. That was about the longest 2 minutes of my life. If you want to get info out of Gitmo detainees, just lock them in a room with this guy.
