This time, the filibuster itself. Benen discusses the history of the filibuster, why it might need to be killed as a Senate rule.

1. Keep the filibuster, it was one way that Dems could have kept us out of Bush's wars,
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 10:59 AM by hmorehead
prevented the Patriot Act and Homeland security Act, stopped at some erosion of our Bill of Rights while the panicky herd calmed down a bit.

Too bad there weren't more filibusters in Bush's reign.

3. Not true, but how nice - too polite to save the Republic from what Jefferson called the "tyranny of
of the majority". ( I am dyslexic and no variation of this word looks right)

4. From wikepedia:
On July 17, 2007, Senate Democratic leadership allowed a filibuster, on debate about a variety of amendments to the 2008 defense authorization bill H.R. 1585, the Defense Authorization bill, specifically the Levin-Reed amendment S.AMDT.2087 to H.R.1585. The filibuster had been threatened by Republican leadership to prompt a cloture vote

6. Maybe use basketball rules
Like time-outs in a ball game, each side gets 5 filibusters they can use per session?
