Everyone has a favorite decade, and for Climate deniers, that decade has got to be, the 70s.
Yes, the decade of disco, kung fu, and watergate

Because in the 70's, Deniers will tell you, All climate scientists believed an ice age was coming. Those crazy climate scientists! Why can't they make up their minds?

But is that really true?
Maybe a little historical perspective is in order.
This remix is re-edited, includes better sound, and new film clips. Definitely a Christmas must-see for Uncle Dittohead and Aunt Teabag!

3. Umm .. in the 1970s, hardly anybody believed "an ice age was coming" -- what was
unclear was the degree of nonlinearity in the response of climate to various variables. Somebody back then pointed out that the models available couldn't really rule out the possibility that a short-term rise in temperature could result in changes in global circulation and global albedo, that might eventually produce a new ice age. And so the corporate media had a field day warning us of a new ice age. It was highly counter-intuitive; most people thought it was nonsense; and in a way it was abstractly true (as far as it went, which wasn't very far). The most rational assumption, since the time of Arrhenius around 1900, of course, has been: CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and we produce a lot of it, so we might reasonably expect global warming. Current models indicate Arrhenius was right
