Army general in Iraq issues pregnancy ban
U.S. personnel in the north could face court-martial, jail for failing orders

The Army general of U.S. forces in Northern Iraq has banned pregnancy among military personnel in his command, NBC News reported on Friday.

Anyone who becomes pregnant or impregnates another servicemember, including married couples assigned to the same unit, could face a court-martial and jail time, according to an order issued by Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo.

The order, which went into effect on Nov. 4, was first reported by the military publication Stars and Stripes.

Military officials say the order was issued because Army policy requires the force to remove a pregnant soldier from a war zone within 14 days of learning of the pregnancy, creating a hole in a unit that makes it more difficult to complete its mission.

“It is a lawful order,” Thompson said Friday during a phone interview with Stars and Stripes.

Thompson, who has served 29 of the past 39 months in Iraq as an inspector general, told the publication that it’s the first time he can recall pregnancy being prohibited.

So far, there have been no known violations of Cucolo's order, NBC reported.

3. Holy matrimony
I wonder if that applies to the married soldiers? Married soldiers are allowed to live in shared quarters.

What are you in for?...I got my wife pregnant.

8. Well, a couple of questions for General Cucolo.
First, is the pregnancy rate that high that mission effectiveness is being compromised? What is the rate and how does it compare to other 'disciplinary' problems which effect mission objectives?

Second, will you order DNA tests run on both the accused male and the fetus? Do you have the facilities to do so in country and the money?

Third, do you really think it's a good idea to make conjugal relations a federal offense? Can you say embarrassing court case?

Finally, when retreat is sounded, you'll still have the same problem, a hole in the manning roster. This has been tried before; the army used to c-m soldiers for STDs. All this accomplished were soldiers who wouldn't go get treated and passed on the disease. General, stated the obvious all you're going have are 'raincoat' pregnancies with all the potential medical problems or worse attempted abortions. If you think a court case is embarrassing, wait for this one to splash and you'll still have that hole.

10. I question what we're going to do with all the walking wounded
who are practically passing out at the PX/BX checkout stand at Ramstein AB. This has been going on for YEARS.

But we already knew that.

It's unnatural, I tell you...

how many more pregnancies he could prevent if he just didn't let women go to war...(do I need the sarcasm icon here?)

17. Well sir, what do you expect them to do on a one year deployment? Pray all fucking day!?!?
Edited on Sat Dec-19-09 10:26 PM by Crowman1979
How about not sending them to Iraq in the first place? Let's face it people, US generals are not the sacred cows that the mass-media portrays them out to be. For example, McCrystal! The last thing I would do, is trust some bastard who commanded a torture unit in Iraq, lied about a soldier's death and is now sending our troops to the great lost cause known as Afghanistan.
