1. That's certainly what the Progressive Caucus has said all along.
In fact, they said, "No 'robust' public option, no bill."

I hope they stick to their guns on this.

Kill the bill.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the answer to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness.

3. The mob forces struggling businesses to pay for protection if they want to continue selling their
goods & services on their turf. Now the Obama government is mandating people to buy health care insurance from the insurance companies. It doesn't take a genius to figure out WHO the winners and losers are in this back room deal.

7. No, indeed. A genius is not required.
I expected more from the Democratic Party. That'll teach me.

Kill the bill.

5. Public Option -- Sounds like a good deal breaker
There's still an opportunity to repair the bad Senate bill with the Senate/House version.

Yesterday, the Senate warned the House not to mess with their bill.

This will be interesting.

9. This isn't just about health care . . . it will also effect Social Security and Medicare . . .
This is simply privatization and more corporatism/fascism cemented into government

11. The bills still have to be merged.
The house will continue the fight for the public option.

12. No, they won't (unfortunately).

They know that whatever is agreed on has to get those illusive 60 Senate votes, and that the Senate bill is the only one that has that many. They won't dare change anything substantive.

Our best chance is to get it voted down in the House, and have insurance reform done piecemeal. In a couple of years if we start creating coalitions for good gov't, there may be irresistible pressure for some form of single payer, which would come out of Congress as at least a decent public option.

13. I think we'll find
a way to advance the public option. Perhaps not as strong as we would like, but the Senate will have to give a bit IMHO.
