Senator Graham:

"Your state is going to be required to cover more people under Medicaid because the eligibility goes up to 133% above poverty....my state's on its knees. I have a 31% African-American population in South Carolina. How did they get the 60th vote?"

When Graham talks about the African-American population that he "has" he does some weird thing with his hand. If I was paranoid I'd think he was giving some kind of Masonic or CCC type-signal.

Well, at least Graham is looking out for the interests of richer white people, and how all this coverage to poor blacks is going to take something out of those richer white people's pockets.

I think the reason this rhetoric isn't working politically any more is when people look at their bank account, wages and job prospects, they don't see much difference between themselves and some working poor black South Carolinian who is 33% over the poverty level. Just ask a factory worker in Michigan.

Thanks for keeping it classy, Senator Graham.

1. That is really what this is all about. Protecting the ultra wealthy WASP.
Edited on Mon Dec-21-09 11:36 PM by Kerrytravelers
And anyone who doesn't fit into that narrow category? To hell with them.

28. No. Here is what it is really about.
The entire country was blackmailed by two senators, one from Nebraska and the other from Connecticut. I wish that the California delegation would get a bail-out for California at the cost of the rest of the country and filibuster any bill that was up for legislation until the blackmail threats were satisfied. Our dear senator from Nebraska should be shunned by legislators on both sides of the aisle. And Nebraska should be specifically omitted from any funding such as for highways and schools. The conduct of the senator from Nebraska is shockingly crass.

20. If that might work then this might too
Tell the voters they actually live in North Carolina and therefore can't vote in South Carolina.

11. EXACTLY!
You nailed it on the head!

I remember how the house got that one vote, somebody actually voted based on who he represents and not based on his party. The rest are all still in the mode to do anything that it takes to make Obama fail, America be damned!

4. Bleah, how do I clean off the grease?
Yes the nose rub suggests some sort of self-protective gesture, but I'd say it was unconscious self-defense, not a secret signal between cheesy white guys.

What a slime ball though.

6. Yes
Yaa, I was just joking about the secret signal. It is weird though. Some psychiatrist would probably have to watch the video to figure out what in his unconscious made him touch his face. He did it right as he was saying "31% African-American population", he points his index finger at his left eye for no apparent reason. Probably some weird unconscious thing.

I'll drop 20 years and 30 pounds overnight before he grows a heart or it bleeds for anyone not connected to him by money or power.

then this idiot goes and makes this despicable statement. I am going to have to find a state to adopt me.

Who's fault is that?

12% unemployment. Is that because of 8 years of GOP government? Because of politicians from your state who think it's OK to do things like sleep around internationally (on the state's dime)? Or maybe because you had a 90-something senile bigot for a senator for 49 years in a row?

Maybe if SC wasn't the Twilight Zone of stupid politics you'd be better off. SC's been nothing but trouble since 1776.

Seems he's trying to build opposition to healthcare reform on the basis of race hatred. That's one of the basics of Deep South politics, especially: appealing to poor-as-shit white voters who, however, have more desire to kick blacks down, than get ahead, themselves.

29. Sunday,on John King..
he began by saying something about how the doctors'wouldn't except patients if they extend it to more medicaid patients and then began saying something about African Americans, and I was wondering what that had to do with it.

I wasn't paying that much attention but my ears perked up when I began to hear certain buzz words. Is this why the repubs are so upset..
