Transcript:

CALLER: Yeah doctor. Our small tea bag group here in Waycross, we got our vigil together and took Dr. Coburn’s instructions and prayed real hard that Sen. Byrd would either die or couldn’t show up at the vote the other night.

How hard did you pray because I see one of our members was missing this morning. Did it backfire on us? One of our members died? How hard did you pray senator? Did you pray hard enough

HOST: Senator Barasso, he was referring to Senator Inhofe, who was not part of the round of voting this morning.

BARASSO: The votes today, they needed 60 votes in favor of the bill. Senator Inhofe is opposed to the bill, and whether he was there or not didn’t make any difference. There was no way that Jim Inhofe was going to vote for the bill, the senator from Oklahoma. So that’s why he wasn’t there this morning.

HOST: Do you know where he was, senator, why he wasn’t able to make the vote this morning?

BARASSO: No, I don’t know.

Poor dude thinks Coburn fucked it up and killed Inhofe by not praying hard enough!

16. Yeah, not sure where to begin.
One thing that jumps out at me, above the long list of stupid, is that there was no reaction that praying for somebody to die is a bad thing. The focus was really on the details of inhofe and why he was not there. Regarding these teabaggers, all I can say is wow. wow.

...Senator Byrd. Pathetic.

46. Shows how far out in right field we have drifted
The host and rep both look like they're on Valium. 10 years ago, heck 5 years ago, you'd expect a news host to stop the caller and call them on such a psychotic deranged thing to say. Today "teabaggers" are some kind of revered legitimate group that gets more airtime and more respect than Doctors for Single Payer.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that there's a site out there with a list of people to pray to death. Obama at the top of course.

49. Also why religion is dangerous.
How many people must be murdered for religion before we take steps to stop this insanity? A great first step would be taxing those churches who make political endorsements. Then we can stop supporting their discriminatory aid programs with tax money, etc. This can probably be done with the laws we already have on the books. I'm not talking about a ban; just accountability for people's actions. The guy who made this call should probably be questioned, too.

You can't 'pray' someone to death!

But if for some reason Senator Byrd ends up back in the hospital before the HCR bill is passed it WILL BE the FAULT OF THE TEABAGGERS AND Republicans!

Though, not in the way you expected:

"Prayers offered by strangers had no effect on the recovery of people who were undergoing heart surgery, a large and long-awaited study has found.

And patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications like abnormal heart rhythms, perhaps because of the expectations the prayers created, the researchers suggested."

You can pray people to death, if you tell them about it :P

28. Of course you can just ask any right wing nut. They will tell you that they
prayed and god took away their alcohol/drug/sex/gay/abortion addictions. Or they prayed and thats why they still have their job while the guy next door is now out of work. It's what wing nuts do best, sit back and enjoy the labors of others then claim it's a miracle from god. Just remember when something bad happens you either didn't pray hard enough or you were stopped by the devil. It's a win/win for them and their belief system.

26. I think it was a joke but...
the fact that we have to even stop and think about whether or not it was shows just how absolutely insane this right wing fascist movement really is. I know none of us want to take them seriously, but they are a real movement and they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. These "teabaggers" are an example of how Nazis came to power in Germany.

42. I'm Christian
I cannot get my head around praying for someone to die. I wouldn't do it against any of them. I wouldn't do it against Cheney. This person can feel misery that he might have hurt someone on his own side, but he can't summon any humanity for someone on the other side?

Where are pastors learning this crap so that they pass it on to their parishoners? Those seminaries need to be shut down!

48. As a Wiccan, I am saddened and mad
Oh, not by the fact that these "good Christians" were praying for someone to die, that's a pretty standard prayer warrior tactic these days and, I'm afraid, par for the course. What gets me is that these people, claiming to be Christians, vilify my religion, tell me that I am worshiping the devil and am bound for hell, yet engage in the most negative of all magical actions - attempting to bring about the death of another through non-physical means. And that's exactly what they are using - magic. I don't care if they dress it up in the Bible, it's still magic, it's negative and it's wrong. And they have the nerve to tell me and my co-religionists that we are evil. Oy.

50. Whether or not it's a joke, this is what we are up against. If only Lincoln had
let the South go when he had the chance, we'd be a hell of a lot better off. Is it too late for southern secession.

I know there are many good people in the south - many DUers, even - but it would sure make life easier here to do what needs to be and should be done. And we'd take all of you in, as long as they let you go. Heck, we could even trade a whole bunch who are already up north, especially from states like Indiana, the northernmost southern state. You have to admit that on every issue, as long as we are one nation, we start out every vote at such a disadvantage that it's, pertinear, hopeless to get anything done at all.
