1. to divide people, and to hide one's own sexuality

in hopes if they lash out against it, they themselves may never be considered gay, even by themselves. It's not about hiding from us, as much as it is a defense mechanism for those who are seriously confused about their own sexuality. It's an extreme reaction that hurts them and others around them.

I find most of those who have the biggest hang up of others' sexuality are restling with it in themselves. It is sad...

I appreciate the way Thom asks very necessary questions and lets us all listen to the answers together. It is really illuminating.

Why would the Hard Right prefer that their kids Not Know what types of sexual interaction are out there that they might be invited to explore, and how to do them safely?

Why would they prefer their children to be tabula rasa in an era of multimedia communications?

Why would they deny them knowing key words about the various practices, and be ready to decide what to do, fully informed? And how to have fun as safely as possible.

Why would you not want that for your child? To be aware and empowered to make their own choices, based on solid scholarship, empirical evidence, and spiritual/moral guidance their parents had chosen to instill in them?

Knowledge is power, they say.
Why would you not want to empower your children to play safely?

Kudos to Thom for asking the questions.

6. I honestly think there is a very SAD hidden fact in...

our extremely religious driven culture...Our high teen suicide rate probably has a lot to do with children of religious families and maybe not so religious families who resort to killing themselves than coming out gay! Our culture is so cruel toward people that the Bible says are abominations and it makes me sick and very SAD! I wish people who do not agree with such Bronze Age thinking would stop calling themselves Christians...The so-called moderates! I do not think they realize that all they are doing is providing cover for this culture of hate!

Another thing most people never even think of is the children who are born inter-sexed (Born with both male & female reproductive organs)...And due to our culture of religious driven hate and misunderstandings many doctors convince the parents to have what they call corrective surgery. Many times the surgeries are wrong and actually damage the child to the point the surgery can't be reversed. Then this child is considered one sex when they are actually the other which dooms them to life where they will never be able to get married on top of the fact our culture already considers such people to be freaks...IT IS NOT FAIR!!!!!!!

I guess I too would be ignorant of such suffering if I had not had a childhood friend who went through this insanity only to kill herself when her family stopped talking to their "son" when he came out as their "daughter". Yes, they were fundies and they never wanted the secret to get out but it did and they chose to distance themselves from their own child rather than comfort their child and accept they made a huge mistake!


BTW- I saw the term you used "tabula rasa" and I was curious and looked it up...I guess the term was coined by John Locke? Very Interesting! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for teaching me something new!

children and their children's children but for their own distaste at something that was taboo in their youth and that way vote Repuke. So that repukes would get into power. So that rich people would not have to pay taxes.
