And won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP9Dj2nvW3Q

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?

6. Jesus, protect us from your followers
I'm a regular church goer and I find the evangelicals crazy.
Christianity is supposed to be about improving YOURSELF and
helping other people. Not praying against a bill that will
help your fellow citizens get healthcare.

...At least that's according to what some of these evangelicals are posting on other sites. If Martin Luther could see these clowns today- I wonder if he's have nailed that list of complaints to the church door?

It's just mind-boggling to me that these freaks don't get that they are the Christian equivalent of the Taliban.

Prior to President Obama's arrival I often wondered how and/or why anyone would have supported scum like Cheney and Bush. After Obams came on board the REAL nut jobs crawled out from their caves and all of us have seen them in all of their glory. So nothing will ever shock me about them - nothing..

All of the RW fudies popped out of the woodwork after that. IMO it's the same BS, with a different president. The only difference is that they are freaking out over his race and name. Plus they are way dumber than the militia kooks of the 1990's.

at least they ask for what G*d wants even if their understanding is imperfect. I have no problem with thier praying, if they are truely open to the spirit then they will come around.

28. You don't know the religious right wing.
Edited on Mon Dec-28-09 12:47 AM by Ladyhawk
It's nearly impossible to get any of them to listen to reason. I know. I grew up as one of them and getting out cost me plenty. I got a total brain-fuck and will probably never be quite right.

My family is filled with right-wing Christians. Once these people are set in their ways, forget about getting them to change their minds. They choose their religion over family. I've seen it often enough. If they'll do that, what makes you think they would ever choose a stranger's well-being over religion?

I'm re-reading Albion Tourgee's A Fool's Errand. It's practically new to me because I last read it in the late eighties. It's just as applicable now as it was when it was written, just after the Civil War. Tourgee expected the South to change right away after the war because it only stood to reason. He got a rude awakening.

Trying to change the minds of the religious right is a fool's errand. It's best to focus on minds that can change.

About a week ago, my mother told me, "I'd rather be happy than know the truth." Happiness to her means putting on blinders, ignoring the plight of others, the rights of others. It means listening to Fox News and Bill O'Reilly tell her it's OK for her to be the way she is. It's OK to ignore reality as long as she's happy.

I love my mother, but her craziness is killing me. Stick a fucking fork in me. I'm nearly done.

It is a complete waste of time trying to get these fundies to consider an alternate understanding of the world.

They are so confined by their beliefs that they actually believe the earth is 6,000 year old. And the concept of an 'old earth' is a plot by the devil to mislead good Christians. There is no hope for them.

33. These fundies have been
convinced that 'God' is on the side of the corporation. They have been told that health care reform, even without the public option, is socialism. They have been taught to associate socialism with 'Godless Communism'. So this all makes sense to these people. And they hear no alternative views.

Remember, what they know of the world comes from their preacher, RW radio and Faux News. They would be as baffled by Cenks view of the world as he is of their's.

Not all of them. I think the Senators know exactly what they are up to. I think for some it is a way to power for themselves and they know it perfectly well. It's that "belief in belief" thing Dawkins and philosopher Dan Dennett talk about.

(Here's the long ...1 hour and 10 minutes... video of Dan Dennett explaining the belief in belief thing...very worthwhile! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvJZQwy9dvE )

And in this case it is obviously pure theatre. Lights. camera, action!

47. I'd say that 99.9% of the people that claim religion do it for thier benefit
and not others. They use it to empower themselves and as insurance, you know- just in case there really is a God. Sure, there will be an occasional Mother Theresa, Gandhi or MLK, but the others? They're just posers expecting to gain something from it.
