Mary Matalin: Bush 'Inherited' 9/11 Attacks (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12-28-09 11:28 AM | Updated: 12-28-09 12:03 PM

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/28/mary-matalin-bush-inherit_n_404949.html

On CNN Sunday, GOP strategist Mary Matalin repeated a strange new Republican talking point -- the idea that the September 11th attacks didn't happen on President Bush's watch.

Arguing that President Obama was complaining too much about the problems he inherited from his predecessor, Matalin (who worked for former Vice President Dick Cheney) said her White House was saddled with problems too. "We inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history," she told host John King on "State of the Union."

Last month, former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino proclaimed that there were no terror attacks under President Bush.

As for Matalin's economic claim, Bush did say that he inherited a recession -- but he got his dates wrong about when that recession began. The National Bureau of Economic Research's Business Cycle Dating Committee says it started in March of 2001, during Bush's first term.

Matalin is, in a word, heinous. I can also think of another word that applies, however decorum does not permit its use.

11. And for almost 8 yrs bush couldn't catch bin laden
or the anthrax terrorist, or find WMD's. Real "tough guys" those republicans! Instead it cost us billions for 2 wars, over 4,000 dead soldiers & 30,000 wounded soldiers. Not to mention God knows how many innocent Iraqis& Afghanis we killed in the process.

bush wished he had Clinton's economy. bush bled our economy dry and couldn't create jobs, nor could he create surpluses, both of which Clinton did and bush spent.

bush couldn't take the time to meet with Richard Clarke, Clinton's Anti-terrorism Czar, when Clarke was worried about the high level of chatter pre 9/11, nor would any of bush's cabinet.

bush didn't "understand" the meaning of a PDB "Bin Laden determined to attack in the U.S."

despite being told in January 2001, that the CIA & the FBI knew it was bin laden who planned the attack on the USS Cole, bush never followed up on going after bin laden, instead he gave Afghanistan 43 million in April 2001, while bin laden lived there.

How does Maitlin sleep at night?

jerk.

12. Well she couldn't say Bush ALLOWED the most tragic attack upon American soil.
They actually investigated FDR to try to prove that he allowed the attack on Pearl Harbor to get us into WW II. If they would have even found HALF the evidence on FDR that we have on Bush allowing 9/11. FDR would have been dragged from the White House and hanged for treason.

How many millions of people believe this collection of lies!

They have learned well from Mr. Goering!

Remember that so called "non fiction" movie 'Path to 9/11' which spent 5 hours saying it was all Clintons fault?

And made Bush out to be the next Patton?

15. I don't think there's any disagreement over the fact that Bush. . .
inherited a recession. After all Clinton presided over the longest, deepest recovery in history. A recession was inevitable and this was the only real justification for the tax cuts (as traditional Keynesian stimulus and not as "supply-side" sophistry).

But I was watching this and immediately called her a f***ing bitch when she claimed Bush "inherited" 9/11. This is a vicious lie and I'd say it's worse than Palin's vicious lie.

These "conservatives" shouldn't get away with this.

27. If it is true, as you say, that Bush did inherit a recession after the Clinton boom
years, all that his misbegotten and short-sighted policies did were to exacerbate it until that recession became the comprehensive global financial disaster that Obama inherited ... which is NOTHING like the recession that "officially" dated from March 2001, whether that recession is actually attributable to Clinton as part of the financial cycle or to Bush as an ... er ... idiot. Most credible authorities concur with the March start date, which clearly occurred during Bush II's early days. Here is an example of one who discusses the WH's interesting actions to "blame it all" on Clinton (and the Dems, of course) as early as 2004, in anticipation of the Presidential election that year: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4264572/
Under Clinton, the US had a budget surplus. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/during_the_clinton_administration_was_the_federal.html
What Bush "inherited" from Clinton was a USD 128 billion budget SURPLUS.
What Obama inherited from Bush was not only a recession, but also a projected budget DEFICIT of USD 482 billion, which worsened as 2009 actually played out. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/28/2009.deficit/index.html

Them's the facts, Mary. Pesky little things, I know.

************
For the record, I ceased believing a word Mary Matalin said even before she began working for Darth Cheney. I can't understand why anyone with an IQ above single digits would even give her the time of day.

49. I didn't say Bush was smart or good
Nor did I say the economy was Clinton's fault. It's clear that the one bright spot for Bush, growth, was all flim flam. However do you blame Bush or do you blame the dominant ideology that was in play even under Clinton, albeit to a lesser extreme? The ideology actually began with Carter.

I truly hope and pray that "supply-side economics" (and I use quotes because "supply-side economics" is to economics what "creation science" is to science) is behind us.

25. this is what party fanatiscism looks like
and the GOP has tons of them, much more so than democrats. If this were turned around, what position do you suppose Matalin would take?

These partisan hacks are so discredited, and yet the media keeps airing them. Why? To maybe normalize this person's POV? One would have to thinks so, because just 10-15 years ago, people like Matalin never got the air time they do now, and that's basically because their POV was never popular.

Like I've said a million times - trying to talk to a neo con is like explaining Philosophy to a pig. They are nothing more than a bunch of sorry losers who refuse to take responsibility for anything. Poor little Bush inherited everything - he did nothing wrong. Yeah, just like Hitler.

I remember they even had the gall to say Clinton was not responsible for the robust economy he managed because all of it was due to bush sr.

So like I said - screw em. Just make fun of them and discuss nothing that requires any kind of thought.
