As the decade comes to a close Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva may look back on the past 10 years with some satisfaction. As Brazilian president for the past seven years he has presided over reduced crime and increasing economic growth that has resulted in the country increasingly being a major world player. However, critics still remain over the leader who came from a humble background and has one year left of his current term. Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports from Rio De Janeiro.

1. Lula, a perfect example of a progressive leader to admire.
Unlike the useless blowhard Chavez. But Lula doesn't talk the Castro/Che BS that our coffee shop revolutionaries like so much, so he is ignored.
