4. These things have been said during every war for the past century
And every time the ruling classes demonize those who say them, convince the soldiers they're fighting for their own liberties and the welfare of their families, and use every method they can to keep people from thinking for themselves and looking at the truth before them.

Saying "war is bad" isn't enough -- because people forget once the war is over.

Saying "war enriches the ruling classes and screws everybody else" is the real message.

Saying "your enemy is not the terrorist who has some minuscule chance of doing you harm but the bankers and corporate owners who exploit you with impunity and pollute your air and water and deprive you of a meaningful future" is the real message.

Saying "poor people and illegal immigrants and ACORN are not the problem -- the rich who laugh at both their suffering and yours are the problem" is the real message.

But how do we get that across? How do we get people to listen? In 1914, socialists were devastated when workers of the countries on one side of World War I ignored working class solidarity and eagerly flocked off to fight the workers on the other side. That wasn't supposed to happen -- but it did.

How do we start now that we don't even have that illusion of solidarity to begin with?

5. I remember watching Sen. John Kerry in the same position. Hopefully
these brave men and women will continue to be part of the government like he did.
